Other Federation Vessels Assigned to Project Genesis?

Captain Clark Terrell

Commodore

This thread contains possible spoilers for anyone who's not read the Vanguard series. Thank you.

As there were several ships assigned to Vanguard, is it possible that other ships besides Reliant were assigned to Project Genesis? We know that Reliant was tasked with finding an appropriate test site, but what vessels assigned to search for sites where smaller scale deployments (reshaping a continent instead of an entire planet, for instance) may have been possible--provided that the Genesis device could be used in such a way (I've no evidence to suggest that it could).

Thoughts?

I would assume that there were no other ships. The reason Vanguard had so many was because it was (publically) a massive starbase at the forefront of exploration and colonization efforts in the Taurus Reach. Regula I was just a research outpost.

We also have to remember that Khan supposedly returned from the Genesis site search without using any sort of extreme warp speed. Why would he, and how could he? So he couldn't have been all that far away in the first place...

But when Carol sent her summons for help, Kirk didn't contact Starfleet to vector in the nearest starship, he rushed to help Carol personally, declaring that the Enterprise was the nearest ship (that is, the only one in the quadrant, which in this movie is a subsection of a sector). Records thus apparently didn't show multiple starships swarming around Regula I. Indeed, they didn't seem to show the presence of the Reliant, either! Understandable for such a secretive project, I guess - but how secretive could it stay if multiple starships were involved?

In contrast, the multiple Vanguard starships were openly present at the site - they merely had cover stories for their presence.

I doubt there were any other vessels. Contact with the kind of top-level-classified information such as Vanguard and anything(and anybody) associated with it would have to be minimalized. That's probably why they went with Clark Terrell. He was involved from the beginning.
