OT: What other franchises would you like to see the Trek authors write

I was thinking the other day about how many other franchises some of the writers have tackled, like KRAD and Buffy, CSI:NY and Spider-Man, and the Ward/Dilmore duo with The 4400, and I got thinking about what other franchises I would like to see the writers tackle. The one that came into my mind first, was Christopher and Eureka, to me this one would be a perfect match with Christopher's passion for science and the scientific elements of Eureka. Another one that hit me would be Dayton Ward and Kevin Dilmore doing NCIS, with Dayton's time in the Marine's and their talent for fun character writing, it seems to me like it would be another good match.

^Well, the "science" in Eureka is generally far, far more fanciful and cartoony than anything in my work, and indeed I've often find the show quite frustrating because of the sheer nonsense of it. But this past season has done a much better job with the research than past seasons have (while still keeping it pretty far-out), not to mention being generally better-written. I might be able to manage something in the vein of the current season, if I were asked.

I think Diane Duane could write some kick-ass Farscape stuff.

I still want to get my hands on the Universal Monsters one of these days . . .

And Dave Mack would be perfect for Battlestar Galactica.

Every couple of years, a publisher gets the rights to the Universal Monsters. Ace did a novel or three back about a decade ago, then four or five years ago Dark Horse Comics published a series of novels (Michael Jan Friedman wrote the Wolfman novel in the series). They never seem to make any sort of impact.

It disappoints me that every time there's anything done with the Universal Monsters, the Phantom of the Opera always gets overlooked.

I tried to jump on the Dark Horse wagon, but all the books were spoken for by the time I found out about it. Like I said, one of these days . . . .

And I suspect the Phantom gets overlooked because he never had a continuing series of his own. There was no BRIDE OF THE PHANTOM or SON OF THE PHANTOM, etc. There was just the original story, which got remade every other decade, so I guess nobody thinks of him as a franchise.

After the first time I finished DTI: Watching the Clock, I mentioned that I would absolutely LOVE to read a "Doctor Who" novel from Christopher. I don't even care what Doctor he uses. This needs to happen!!

David Mack, absolutely for BSG. Greg I would love to see write a Buffy novel...

I wrote a couple of BUFFY stories for the "Tales of the Slayer" anthologies, but, alas, I never managed to land one of the novels.

Not for lack of trying, btw. I actually submitted a proposal for a BUFFY novel once, but my editor asked me to concentrate on ALIAS instead . . . .

I would love to read a Stargate SG1, Atlantis or Universe book written by Christopher or Greg. :) Have you ever consider writing for the Stargate franchise? :)

I'd be interested in seeing an Andromeda novel from Christopher.

To be honest, I'm not all that familiar with STARGATE, although I did watch a couple of the Ben Browder/Claudia Black eps because of the FARSCAPE connection. I was always more of a FARSCAPE fan.

But, you know, I bet KRAD could write some great FARSCAPE stuff . . . oh wait. :)

I've love to see prequel novels set in the Half-Life/Portal universe. The Cave Johnson/Aperture Science backstory from Portal 2, Aperture's competition with Black Mesa, the Combine invasion and Seven Hour War.... why don't these books exist yet?

Re: OT: What other franchises would you like to see the Trek authors w

How about an Isaac Asimov's Foundation novel by Christopher? :)

I'd be interested in seeing an Andromeda novel from Christopher.

There was a time when I was very interested in writing one. Keith did the prequel novel about the Eureka Maru crew before the series, and I would've loved to do a complementary prequel novel about Dylan and the Commonwealth in its prime. And I even came close-ish to getting to pitch for the show. But then Robert Hewitt Wolfe got fired and the show lost its way and its potential was squandered and I became kinda glad I dodged that bullet.

And of course there's zero chance of reviving the tie-in novels. Outside of its fanbase, Andromeda is considered a minor footnote in genre television. There'd be no market to speak of.

It's not exactly a franchise, but I'd be fascinated to see what Christopher would do in Alastair Reynolds 'Revelation Space' universe.

His writing in 'The Buried Age' suggests it could be interesting...

Actually I'd like to see David Mack do a Dr Who Time War storyline... A big Dalek war epic...

Heh, same here.
