OT: Doctor Who: Short Trips: The Quality of Leadership

If I may borrow this forum for a brief OT announcement that does really-o-truly-o connect to Trek lit.....

I've finally gotten the okay to announce the table of contents for the Doctor Who: Short Trips anthology I'm editing called The Quality of Leadership. That list includes several folk familiar to the world of Trek lit...

First off, both Peter David and Diane Duane are making their professional Who fiction debuts in this anthology -- I am both stunned that they hadn't done anything prior to this and thrilled that I got to be the one to hire them to do it. :D

The rest of the list includes other Trek authors -- John S. Drew, Allyn Gibson, Robert T. Jeschonek, Una McCormack, Terri Osborne, James Swallow, and Richard C. White -- as well as Kathleen O. David, Linnea Dodson, and Steven Savile.

Find out more at the post I made on my blog.

We now return you to your Trek lit board, already in progress....

Do all the stories feature the Eighth Doctor or is he drawing from memories of his previous regens as well?

Each of the first eight Doctors are represented at least once, worry not.

But why not the Ninth and Tenth Doctors?

Either way, I'll probably check this out. Peter David and Doctor Who? Count me in!

^ Because Big Finish's license only covers the first eight. Nine and Ten are the exclusive domain of BBC Books.

Ah, I figured it must have been something like that but my stupid brain couldn't pull out the word "license."

DW gets Peter David & Diane Duane and Trek gets me

DW gets the better deal...

Cool. I've just been getting into Big Finish's radio plays recently. Listen to them at work. This book will be right up my street.

^ Er, the TOC is not all Americans, and it should also be added that plenty of Americans (myself included) have contributed to Short Trips in the past.

But Una McCormack, James Swallow, and Steve Savile are all Brits, and Diane Duane has lived in Ireland for over 20 years now.

More to the point, all thirteen of us are huge Who fans. :D

We can't be that protective. We're still letting Russell T Davis write crap finales and specials.

Wow, that does sound like a pretty good line up. I'm not sure if I'll pick this up though, because I've already got a pretty full reading list.

Cool, DW short fiction. Great gig, and what a fantastic line-up of writers! I'll definitely pick this up. :bolian:

I'm still geeking out over the fact that I'm in a book with Diane Duane!

Okay. I'm calm. I'm calm.

No, seriously, it's going to be a really cool anthology. As I replied to someone on LJ when he asked about the book's accessibility, I think this is a Short Trips anthology that readers who are unfamiliar with Doctor Who but who like the work of, say, Peter David or Diane Duane or Terri Osborne will be able to pick up, run with, and enjoy. So you TrekLit readers, give this one a try when May rolls around.
