OT: 4400: The Vesuvius Prophecy

YAY!!!!

My copy of The Vesuvius Prophecy was delivered last week and I picked it up from my grandmother yesterday. Should be able to start reading it in a couple of days and I have to say, I'm really looking forward to it.

Here's to a great read

I'm a third of the way through and enjoying it.

I'm already looking forward to the Dilmore and Ward book and got totally excited about the 4400R, can i copyright that phrase ;), when I found out 2 other books are taking place after the series abrupt end.

This is on my maybe maybe not list - given it takes place before the end of the series. I might consider reading the novels once they go past the series finale and into original territory as we've been told they will, though.

^ Damn. Now I know how the author of the last numbered DS9 novel felt.

(Whoever that was.)

Says the author of the last numbered TOS novel.

Actually, the author of the last numbered DS9 novel was Andrew J. Robinson. It was A Stitch in Time, #27. So I'm afraid your gag doesn't quite work.

If anyone's interested, the last numbered TNG novels were the Maximum Warp duology by Dave Galanter and Greg Brodeur (#62-63), and the last numbered VGR novels were the Dark Matters trilogy by Christie Golden (#19-21). There were no numbered ENT novels.

The last numbered DS9 novel was Andrew J. Robinson, with A Stich in Time. Given the critical acclaim the book's received, I don't think he was particularly bummed.

Fictitiously yours, Trent Roman

EDIT: Hey, you're not Keith. What are you doing pre-empting me?

Noticed that TVP has a Titan-style cover, but not completely so. I like it and can't wait to get stuck in.

All I have to do is finish Last of the Wilds by Trudi Canavan first.

BTW, anyone who loves fantasy should read her books!

I found this book, surprisingly, at Wal-Mart. I picked it up, but have no idea when I'll get to it what with all of the crazy-good Trek books coming out that I consider to be higher priority.

I hadn't heard there was officially an announcement of post finale 4400 books planned. This is sweet! Now, those would get some priority. :techman:

There hasn't been. The books that are currently slated were contracted before it was known the TV series had been cancelled.

That's not quite right. The third and fourth books do advance the story beyond the end of the series. And that was announced (or at least mentioned) at Shore Leave.

Exactly. I'm writing the third book, which picks up where Season Four left off and Dave Mack is writing the fourth book which continues "Season Five."

Thanks for posting that! I'll be curious to hear what other people think of the book.[/quote]

I just finished the book tonight. It was a quick read. I felt that the author really captured the characters from the series quite well. I have not read much "TV tie-in" literature aside from Star Trek. At many times, I felt like I was watching an episode of The 4400 series while I was reading the book.

SPOILERS AHEAD.....

However, for some reason, this book seemed to read "lite" compared to Trek literature. I didn't feel that the plot or the writing was as sophisticated as I have come to expect from Star Trek novels (including Mr. Cox's many excellent Trek novels :) I could see the novel's resolution coming from a mile away. Once Maia revealed that Alana had to go to the mountain as well, it was obvious that she was going to defuse the situation by putting the antagonist into a "reality world." It was also very obvious that the antagonist was "bleeding" energy from his twin brother.

Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable read and it made me realize just how much I am going to miss this television series!!! I am glad that there are (at least) three more novels coming...

Saw this in the bookstore when I went in today, had a flick through the first chapter and almost bought it - was sorely tempted. But, as I said earlier, I'm going to not buy the book - but I will buy the continuation novels - but this might go on my Xmas list.

 That just made my day. Not only are there going to be books after the series, but there will be at least two of them, AND both written by authors who have a good track record with me. And I've made no secret of David Mack being my favorite author here so that just even more "OMG OMG OMG."

Agreed. As cool as the upcoming ST announcements at Shore Leave were, I think I got more excited when I heard about the 4400 books.

OK, off the computer for tonight. Hopefully finishing Greg's book before I fall asleep.
