Ostermond's Ships And Stuff

Ostermond

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
Hey people. May as well start a thread for my miscellaneous Trek stuff, since I like fooling around with designs in my spare time. To start this thread off on the right foot, two of my most recent little design-works.

Cruiser
A light(?) cruiser of some sort inspired in part by the Inquiry-class -- a remake, actually, of an older model I was working on last year but never got far with. Still haven't settled on a name yet.

and some comparisons between old

You can see on the old one there's twin torpedo launchers on the bow, between the catamaran structures. I haven't yet added the impulse engines, nor a shuttlebay -- and i kinda have the nacelles and pylons temporarily ripped from the old model til I can make a fresh pair.

Kelvin Oberth
This is something I did for @PixelMagic's Doomsday project. A Kelvin Timeline take on the Oberth-class.

Here, I attempted to take the classic lines of the Oberth and sleek it out a ton to give it a feeling as close to "neofuturistic" as I possibly could while still quite clearly being the Oberth.
Recontextualized certain areas as well; the flat back-end of the Oberth's original primary I've turned into a sort of "grille" along the lines of the primeline Excelsior's neck. Possibly heat radiation or wide-field planar sensor emitters. Also tried thickening the pylons so that yes, you can keep a turbolift vertical within them.
I've sent this off to Pixel some time ago for conversion into a fully-detailed VFX model -- as it is for his "Star Trek: Doomsday" project, after all.

Hope y'all enjoy, n' maybe stick around or somethin' :)

I really like the angular deflector in this! Looks very heavy-duty and like it means business. Cool!

Now this looks amazing! Like a hot-rod version of the Oberth, which makes it a perfect fit for the Kelvinverse line of ships. The segmented elements on the nacelles is what I like most about this. Looks very pretty and very fast!

Thanks most kindly! It actually spawned from an idea to give the Inquiry a visible deflector --

Which frankly, i really liked. That whole ship kinda spawned from this little shop-job I did for fun. And glad that the feeling of the ship meaning "business" is getting across. Could probably give it a rather bold feeling name, then...

Thank you thank you! I can definitely see the "hot rod" comparison in those nacelles -- looking like the wings on Mercury's sandals (or Thor's helmet, if you're so marvelously inclined) and such. Those elements, by the by, are analogous to the grilles on the prime Oberth-class, but again stylized to add those sweeping curves and such.

I'm digging that Oberth a lot. I'm maybe a bit on the fence about that little cowling piece which looks more like 'a thingy in top' instead of an integral part of the nacelle, but the rest of the ship really hits home for me!

Thank you also! That cowling piece is supposed to be analogous to the hood-cowling on the Kelvin Enterprise, but I can see how you mean for sure.

Amazing designs!

I like your "sleeker-than-Inquiry" interpretation.
But the Nuberth tops it. I'm not a fan of the Oberth class but your ship combines its unique configuration with a slick appearance. I'd love that ship!

Thank you, thank you all!

Here's another ship I did some rough stuff of: a kinda-sorta Excelsior-like design, possibly usable as a Kelvin timeline USS Excelsior, or some Excelsior-derived future ship.

(kelvin enterprise model not mine; just for scale if above ship were to be used for the kelvin timeline)

Hope y'all enjoy this lil quick snip :)

Sorry for practically necromancing my old thread, but I think I've got a real winner of a ship in the works:

I present the Advance-class, a 2380s patrol escort/scout. Four decks tall, approximately 95 meters long. Based somewhat off of the Archer-class scout.
This is probably one of my best ships thus far, purely on account of the detail I'm going into on this thing; making a simple Maya model and drawing over it in photoshop like this. Sure, it's still my trademark sketchy lines -- I'm no draftsman, sadly -- but the ideas are being put down onto paper, at least.

More to come!
