I do think Atonement shouldve beat out No Country For Old Men but I did like the latter.
To a certain extent old movies must be considered in the context of their time to be appreciated. However, watching movies for pleasure is not like taking a film class, and I understand people like what they like.
But the movie's story itself - if glamorized and altered somewhat - is what thrills me the most. That's partly due to the fact that they are stories of faith. Each man had his faith challenged - and ultimately rewarded - in a different way. However, at the same time those types of stories don't entertain everyone, which means other evaluations can be every bit as valid.
