What time was this actually released today cause earlier I stumped onto it already and well I was in the middle of downloading season 3 episodes. It was short and it was a very interesting one at that.
I really liked the interaction b/w the Excelsior and Intrepid crews too. Didn't really mention anything about the Odyssey through. Great job guys.

The only link to Odyssey is the bad guys.

A fun little short. Nice to see the Intrepid crew in a context where I can make out the dialog easily; I hope they'll take that know-how back with them!

I assume the reassignment to Beta Quadrant is to keep the Excelsior crew from stepping on Helena's toes too much?

Nice little film. This cross over did not seemed forced and the story though short was pretty good. I would love to see a longer one down the road. Good job guys.

Kudos for the "Undiscovered Country" VFX nod at the end, there. :)

Nice going. It's great that there's a bit of a fandom continuity going between the different TNG series. Granted it's a small universe, but the effort put into these otherwise separate shows is amazing.

I agree that it was fun to see the two shows melded in a way that didn't seem forced. It also strikes me that this short sets the stage for the possibility of more such things (automated equipment which survived the battles) showing up in Odyssey.

Regarding the understanding, I assume you're refering to the sound quality of Heavy Lies the Crown ?
If so, the new works being filmed are using improved equipment for both video and sound and should be much, much better.

I've always wondered what the deal was with the lighter grey highlights on the Hidden Frontier uniforms? I know that there is a difference on the actual costumes, but the HF costumers decided to bring them into stark relief here, where the "real" uniform color differences are barely perceptible on TV. But compared to the Intrepid uniformed people standing right next to them, which don't have the different coloring at all, The HF crew almost look shiny...

Different construction methods and materials, basically. Though I believe Rob has said the lighter grey edging is intended as an upgrade.

Nice work! Good story line and uniformly excellent acting. Now if we could just find someone who can do a good Scottish accent... ;)

I've had some time to think about this one so I'm going to comment.

Positives:
First and foremost, its great to see the Hidden Frontier crew back in action, even if its just some of them, even if it’s a short. Still nice to see.

Further, John Whiting is back! The guy is just great, no matter what he does. I miss Henglaar, but the Archein General is fun to watch develop. Plus, I bet it’s a big reversal for him to go from gruff Tellarite to the more refined, intellectual General. Either way, I’m glad he was included.

Even though we’ve only seen the Intrepid crew once before, they managed to maintain their character continuity quite well. Poor Captain Hunter! Gets shit from everyone. I love it! I like these guys.

The biggest plus this short has going for it is the continued, feigned rivalry between Shelby and Hunter. Risha and Nick play it deliciously, Nick’s facial expressions and frustrated tone, playing perfectly off Shelby’s poking, taunting comments. It’s a strong friendship that can handle that kind of teasing, and its fun to watch each time they run in to each other.

Negatives:
We're introduced to a new chief engineer. I guess Corey didn't make it out of that fight in "Iliad." :( On top of this, the new engineer, who while good looking yet forgettable, seemed to have an odd penchant for holding on to Lefler while they were on the Archein probe. I'm not sure if he's hanging on because he's trying to help her stay up or if he's just scared shitless.

S'Ceris’ absence in the second half of the short was handled clumsily. He doesn't like going into Romulan Space? Boo hoo. He's a Starfleet Officer! He's supposed to do what his captain tells him to.

The film also carried in it shades of the DS9 episode "Civil Defense", most notably via the on-screen instructions from the Archein general. I can't decide if its derivative or just another homage.

Really though, the thing that bothers me about this outing is that while it was very nice to see the two crews working together, there just doesn't seem to be any point to the story. The two ships show up, they get beamed aboard the invading ship, and discover.... that the Archeins are planning to colonize in the Alpha Quadrant. Something we learned in the pilot for Odyssey. Like I said though, the repartee between Risha and Nick is priceless, so it carries the film somewhat, but doing something like this just for the sake of the crossover just strikes me as somewhat gimmick-y, and that’s disappointing because I know based on the last couple years of what these guys have produced, that they can do better.

That's a pretty fair assessment. :)

Basically we had literally a single day to shoot this, so it was a matter of having something we could shoot in a day. We really wanted to do something bigger, but didn't have the time.

S'Ceris disappearance was down to the simple fact that David was only available for a few hours. He was pretty much on his honeymoon, so suffic to say his partner didn't really want him tied up filming for too long. That he was willing to accomodate us as much as he did was pretty generous. :)

From a story point of view, S'Ceris is actually wanted for treason within Romulan space, so it's not the healthiest of places for him to be. Unfortunately, we didn't really get into that here, but hey, it did lead into a funny line at the end. :)

Originally, we'd started out planning to shoot a single scene for Helena Chronicles, when Rob (I think it was Rob anyway) suggested we do a short instead. It was light, it was fun, and that's pretty much what we set out to achieve.

It was also a pretty good learning experience for us.
