Orphan Black - Season 2 Discussion

I wish I could watch this show all night.

And what exactly do they want with the super clone wonder baby, what do they think it will do for them?

Episode 3 in the UK tonight - I finally got round to watching the first two episodes of the season last night- great to see it back.

I find it hugely ironic that the cloning company's chief bruiser is a Cylon...

So they can have an army of angles!

And I could so stare at Jordan Gavaris' ass all day and night... and do more than stare... So thank you. :)

Looks like we're getting a lot of Seestra action tonight. I also want to thank Orphan Black for whenever I see or hear the word "Sister", I will think of "Seestra". Can't wait till tonight.

The Proletheans just get creepier and eviler. I could hardly even look at what they did to that poor girl.

Favorite part: Helena eating eggshells and raw ramen noodles. There is nothing that gal does that's anywhere near normal.

And yeah, right -- all the original clone data was "lost" in the fire. As soon as I heard that story, I figured someone had staged the fire to make it look like the information was lost.

Nice to see Dr. Leekie taking a more sympathetic turn -- but that just underlies how menacing Rachel is. And I guess I was wrong the other week when I thought I heard Rachel address Leekie as "Dad."

I meant to comment on that actually. When I watched that episode for the second time I paid close attention, and she does in fact call him 'Aldous.' Though someone who's not listening closely it could sound like father.

I loved this episode...a lot! When Helena first turned up at the hospital I loved it, but a little part of me felt she was only back because she was a popular character and I wasn't sure what more could be done with her. Well, I suppose I never thought that teaming her up with Sarah would be so awesome! I loved every bit of Helena and Sarah as a team, especially when Sarah described Felix as their "boy sister."

So just when I thought I had Paul figured out, he goes and pulls this! From the implications at the end of Season 1 I figured he was going to be working from the inside to help Sarah, but now it appears he's allowed Rachel to get to him. The whole confrontation with Felix was sad, great acting from Gavaris was just excellent.

As much as I like Cosima as a character, she just kind of seems to be "there" right now. I mean I understand the her part of the storyline and it's interesting, but at the moment it doesn't appear to be going anywhere. I understand that it will most likely make sense too and upon rewatches I will no longer feel this way, but for right now I just think the character is being wasted.

While all this happened... Allison broke into the kitchen at rehab with some new friends and took all the cookie dough.

Isn't it odd that none of them got fat?

Next season, I want to see the clone who never went hungry.

While I think I liked last week's episode better, a decent episode of Orphan Black is like 5 time better than anything else I watched on TV this week. This episode felt kind of like a breather after the intensity of the previous few weeks, kind of saying we're at the halfway point of the season, here is where we are going in the second half and this episode is serving as that bridge.

Helena and Sarah were amazing in everything they were in. I didn't get the "seestra" team up like I thought I would, but it looks like that is coming next week. That scene where Sarah stands in front of the rifle and pleads for Helena's help was brilliant and Tatiana Maslany shows once again why she is the best actress working in TV (or film) today. Yeah it's been said about how she plays all these characters, but just the emotion she gives, from one week being absolutely horrified to this week almost begging for Helana's help (Whether or not I believe her is irrelavent, it was a beautiful speech and scene) the range this woman has makes this show an absolute pleasure to watch on a weekly basis. I am very close to making this series a top 5 series of shows I've seen of all time, but it's hard to do that because it's still early and having a conclusion is key to any series.

This episode gave us more on Rachel this week and that was great to see. With Rachel and Paul not in the episodes for two weeks in a row, it was nice to return to Rachel and Paul is just really confusing at this point. I know I'm in a minority in saying I don't mind Paul, but in a season and a half, how many times has this guy flipped flopped sides? I mean how much of a reach does Dyad have over him? It's almost like he's as patented as the clones are, and he doesn't have free will.

Aldo, I agree with you regarding Cosima. I really wish Cosima had more to do, but it seems like she's been trapped at Dyad all season. It looks like in the second half we might get some payoff with her but so far, unfortunately she's kind of in a lull period. Either kill her off, or find a cure, but just make Cosima a little more interesting.

This season really has fleshed out Dyad, the clone experiment and the Proleathians very well. Looking forward to hopefully meeting Ethan Duncan, and hopefully they free Felix. That scene with Paul was really intense.

^^^I was satisfied with the Helena and Sarah scenes we got this week, it whetted my appetite for their inevitable team up next week. And when I was thinking to myself what I was going to type...I almost was going to type they play well off each other...until I remembered it is the SAME ACTRESS!

How many times am I going to keep making this mistake? As many times as Tatiana keeps knocking these performances out of the park. Speaking of that, I was recommended a video on youtube called "Who does Tatiana like kissing more? Paul or Delphine?" and my first thought was: "holy shit that's right!!!"

Oh don't get me wrong. I loved the scenes with Helena and Sarah. My anticipation just has to wait a week.

I have seen that very video you're talking about. Like I said last season, Tatiana Maslany must have the most secure job in TV today. While characters get killed left and right on shows like Game of Thrones, Maslany can lose a character but still has at least 5 others to play, and I think she's done it with all the male, and some female, actors on this show. I can see why she is having so much fun doing a show like this.

And somewhere I recall someone pointing this out: she'll never be typecast. She can land any role she wants to at the moment. It's a shame the only thing I've seen her outside of Orphan Black (after it started, I mean) is her two episode stint on "Parks and Rec."

I did see her briefly in Ginger Snaps 2 when I turned it on, but it was half over and I didn't feel like watching it at the time, but I'm curious. Is it worth watching?

Ep 5 was very stressful! Poor Felix, ugh the price of having family. And, more family.

And yes I agree about having to keep reminding myself that these are the same actor.

I'm not going to take that as wrote until I have examined and compared all the clones bottoms.

How many bums have made it to the final cut?

And I guess I was wrong the other week when I thought I heard Rachel address Leekie as "Dad."

No, that's not what I'm referring to. I did hear her call him Aldous during that conversation, but there was also a point, while she was adjusting Leekie's bow tie, when she said something that I heard as "Dad." Since she used both forms of address (or so I thought), I wondered if maybe the "Dad" was a slip of the tongue on the character's part. But now it seems that I misheard.

Well, she's still valuable for science exposition, which is an important role in an SF series. And she is a catalyst for events, because the search for her cure is motivating a lot of the characters' decisions, or has the potential to. It's hovering in the background while the emphasis shifts to the other clones, but there's enough simmering there that I'm certain it's going to have payoff later on.

Earlier this week I read an amazing article from Yahoo about the hairstylings and make up that go into Orphan Black, and the changes between Characters Maslany has to go through. It was a very good piece, well worth the time to read.

Great, thanks, that's just what I've been looking for. I've realized that the makeup design must be a factor in why the clones (especially Alison) look so different to me that I sometimes forget they're the same actress. But I didn't know enough about makeup to break down what the specific differences were, beyond obvious things like Alison's bangs and the redness around Helena's eyes.

By the way, did anyone else see the unintentional Doctor Who homage scene last night with Kira and the Gas Mask. I would have smiled had she said "Are You My Mommy".

I was more wondering why Cal had a gas mask. Between that and the gun he had stored, there's clearly more to him than meets the eye. And I wonder why the cop didn't get suspicious about it.
