Orion Assassin-class Battle Raider

Icy_Penguigo

As the General War dragged on, heavy military escorts for convoys became a larger and larger problem for the Orions. This class was designed in response to that. It is siginificantly larger and more powerful than the standard Raider, and fully capable of going toe-to-toe with a warship(if it has to).

This is not a terribly attractive design. It's basically a shorter but way fatter Raider, with some altered details. I tried to make up for the ugly design with a cool paint job.

Anyway, here it is:

Why English on the hull? I never thought humans were even a sizable minority in those raider groups. Just curious--hope you don't mind me asking.

Just an idea--did you consider blunting the nose to complete the "square stance" look? You could sneak another mounting point for whatnot and distinguish the ship a little more from similar designs.

The "Orion" Pirates started when the newly formed Federation made the decision to disband all national fleets in favor of one unified Star Fleet. This made many Orions extremely unhappy, and a dozen or so Orion ships and their crews promptly disappeared. They resurfaced some years later as pirates. Over the years, the strong mafia-like organization of the Orion Pirates strong-armed all the independent pirate operators out of their space, and many of those beings were forced to join them if they wanted to continue living outside the law. Also, as the Orions spread all over known space, they recruited beings from every part of space. After a century or so, they were Orion Pirates in name only, when in fact a pirate ship's crew was usually about as diverse as could be.

Unfortunately, I can't blunt the nose, this model has to match an already released miniature.

its all about the awesome paint job. :)

why english? target market.

Indeed. :)

Looks good - but isn't the BR supposed to have three option mounts under its nose?

True. I'm not sure how to handle this though. I don't have a BR mini, so I don't know what it looks like. I think with my Orions, I might end up modeling a series of different option mount configurations, and using them as needed. In any event, I've asked SVC how he thinks I should make it look.

I'd put two more of those weapon mounts under the nose, but positioned so they, and the pre-existing one, make a V - but that's just my own view.
