Original series planet to return in games (spoilers)

Mr. Sin

Commander
Skaro apparentally will return in the new PC games, as indicated in the latest press release. But is it the same Skaro from the classic series or something entirely different?

Skaro has a confusing history....

It first appeared in The Daleks, where it was shown to be sort of a petrified forest. Future appearences settled for the quarry look, pretty much, with various city designs.

In Rememberance of the Daleks it is implied that the Daleks abandoned Skaro but are now returning to their ancestral seat; and the Doctor destroys Skaro using preprogrammed commands set into the Hand of Omega.

The TV movie is where the continuity seems to be a little weird. The Master is put on trial and exterminated by the Daleks, on the planet Skaro which is back. Why the Daleks would put the Master on trial for his 'evil crimes' is not made clear, although it might have had something to do with their alliance in "Frontier In Space".

Many fans think that perhaps this is Skaro from an earlier era from when he destroyed it....but it's never made clear.

The novels further complicate things by saying the Skaro the Doctor destroyed was a phony, and has been a phony since Destiny of the Daleks (The Movellans also were retconned as a Dalek plot) and the real Skaro was still out there.

Daleks In Manhatten says Skaro was destroyed in the time war, but then again perhaps the inciddents in Rememberance can be seen as part of the war...

Anyway, the point is, is this "The" Skaro or new Skaro?

I've never thought that "Remembrance of the Daleks" actually destroyed Skaro, the planet.

The Hand of Omega caused the star to go nova. That would have irradiated the planet, but the Dalek casings would have left them protected. So long as the star didn't swell and consume Skaro as it transformed into a red giant, Skaro would have been perfectly fine. In time, the star would have settled down, becoming a white dwarf, and Skaro would have continued in its lonely orbit.

The Doctor may have hoped to destroy the Daleks by unleashing the Hand of Skaro. But, really, I think he managed to stir them up, like sticking his hand in a hornet's nest.

Its quite possible the Daleks went off to build a new skaro, and its that which we see in the game, or possibly even on TV before them.

Game prescreens to raving reviews!

That would ne nice, but then we do have that one Dalek in "Remembrance" clearly saying "Home planet Skaro about to vapourise." So I'd say that's a pretty good implication that Skaro was indeed destroyed.

Actually, from what I've seen and heard of the game so far, it sounds as though a lot of it takes place in an alternate timeline created by the new Daleks.
