Orci wants a Captain Sulu series to 'tie the universes together'

I used to feel that way, too, back in the early-to-mid 90s when Takei was lobbying for a Captain Sulu show. Then he did that Voyager 2-parter and it was pretty obvious that George Takei doesn't have the acting chops to carry a series.
A 2-parter would've been nice :p

I'd be all for a Sulu series with Cho, but the inevitable assumptions that it'd be Kelvinverse would just cloud the issue.

If we see the maroon uniforms again, they'll be sleek modern versions of them.

It would be fun, if the next Trek movie is a Kelvin film, to have Pine and those guys in cool, less frumpy maroon outfits. Their versions of the characters are getting close to the right age.

If the next one isn't Pine/Quinto/Saldana they're going to have a hard time selling me a ticket.

I'd watch a John Cho Sulu series... but what can it offer that Strange New Worlds, Discovery, Picard, Lower Decks or the half dozen other shows coming soon don't?

Other than John Cho, of course.
Harry and Kumar goes to OUTERSPACE SPACE SPACE SPACE SPACE....

Nimoy already "tied the universes together"
How so many Star Trek fans missed that point in JJ Abrams Star Trek. But here we are with the f*cking Prime and Kelvin non-sense.

The two-parter you're thinking of is "Future's End" with Sarah Silverman, which aired shortly afterwards. But otherwise...

This sums up my thoughts exactly. I was for a Sulu series right up until I saw "Flashback". I didn't think it was a bad episode per se, but it didn't make me think "I want to see more of this!" either.

I believe you mean the stand alone episode 'Flashback'.

George Takei as Sulu as a miniseries would work fine with me. A John Cho Sulu series doesn't excite me at all.

Funnily enough, with all the talk of Kelvin-era monster maroons - and a Sulu helming an Excelsior movie / series - there is a Kelvin-era Excelsior (different registry) that can be seen in STiD: moored at spacedock in the background, which is essentially a red-hulled Newton-Type starship (based on a red-hulled Newton concept sketch).

just saying... ;)

As excited as I was to see Takei et. al in "Flashback," I honestly thought his acting was stiff and wooden.

Either way, I've always felt that a Captain Sulu series would never see the light of day (not that I ever wanted one anyway), and nothing so far has made me change that stance.

For some reason I thought "Flashback" was a 2-parter. Can you tell I haven't seen it since it aired?

Hi,
a Star Trek series should follow Captain Sulu. Tie the universes together through his adventures.
