Oprah?! OH COME ON!!!!

I just checked and my discs appear to be region-free. The product SKU is 5051561000553.

By the way, don't believe what you may read online about the discs being 1080i. Mostly the video format is 1080p. Some parts of the title sequence (credits) are 1080i, and one or two sequences filmed in difficult locations are 576i (PAL) and not 480i (NTSC).

Comments from buyers in the US on amazon.co.uk indicate that they were able to play the discs successfully. Your mileage may vary, of course.

Why do the people at the American version of the Discovery Channel think this daytime "talk show host" is appropriate for such a show.

Because her name added to the credits will guarantee hundreds of thousands of extra viewers, therefore making the advertisers happy. That, and Mike Rowe probably wasn't available that week. Doesn't need to be any clearer than that.

Anyway, she's going off the air in 2011 so I'm sure you'll be happy. Me, I find it dead easy to ignore her, so I couldn't care less about her one way or the other, except I hope she gives Leno a hard time.

I can't stand Oprah! I just learned that she is narrating Discovery Channel's Life. This aired in on the BBC in 2009 narrated by the legendary Sir David Attenborough. How embarrassing the American version will be narrated by this... woman.

:bolian:

To Oprah & Discovery? :klingon: :scream:

Where were all you people lining up to boycott when Planet Earth used Sigourney Weaver instead of Attenborough? Is this really about Discovery 'snubbing' one of the world's greatest nature documentarians, or is this all about hating Oprah Winfrey? I generally find her show to be annoying, but she's got a good voice, and if that gets a few more people to tune into what sounds like a fascinating show, what's the big fucking deal?

I had an issue with Sigourney Weaver as the Narrator. Like Winfrey, I felt Weaver had a nice voice but one of the reasons I was interested was because of Attenborough.

I only liked her when her talk show was trashy like Jerry Springer. Once she cleaned it up I had no use for her and don't get why people think she is so great.

Sir David has the authority that comes from knowing his subject. Isn't there a similar wildlife expert in the US who could narrate or, at least, a star known for their conservation work? Has Oprah got any experience in natural history?
