K'Ehleyr, last summer the DH and i rented an RV and did the "World's longest yard sale" thing. It's a yard sale, so to speak, that stretches 4 states long. We never RV'd before that, and we loved it. But i KNOW i could never do something like that with my parents and sister. But RVing is awesome since i love road trips.

In a perfect world the family trip would be full of closeness, good times and bonding.

But this ain't a perfect world and if i had to make that trip i'd probably be homicidal within 3 days. Don't know about you, but i'd go to the opera.

See you did a trip with people that you like:lol:

Road trip!

I love a good road trip. Generally I go with the wife and dog though. I remember long car trips with my parents over the years. Not cool.

see above answer ;)

I am simply a huge fan of road trips, so do that. :)

If I don't go, I'll leave you the details! :)

I don't think a road trip would be any cheaper than flying, what with the high cost of petrol, crossing the channel by ferry/train, all the food stops, unless you want to eat out of tins, rather than stopping for fresh groceries... you wouldn't come out that better off. I would say a road trip would be lovely for its own sake, if you like that kind of thing, but if it's just to cut costs, probably not worth it.

If it were with my friends, I would say roadtrip. I fucking love roadtrips.

However, I think going with my family would suck. We like each other well enough, but we are very much fans of our private space.

I did a roadtrip with my parents the proper way. We traveled from central florida to Glacier, Montana. I drove my car and they took their car. We also used different routes!

I would pay a lot of money not to be stuck in a vehicle for 5 days with my family. You have the journey back too remember. Opera. It's the only sane answer.

I chose opera because from the tone of your post that's the one you really want everyone to chose. No shame in that.:)

P.S. Am I am idiot or did you say you were driving from England to Italy? Is that possible?

So my brother's had this crazy idea... Dad and Brother are very into bikes, I am too in an intense 'watch it from the sofa' kinda way. So Mum and Dad have a motorhome, and Bro has this idea that we pursuade Dad that driving from UK to Mugello, Italy to watch to MotoGP in June would be a fun trip!

Why aren't they riding? They call themselves bike enthusiasts? :p

K'Ehleyr, oh yes, road trips with the DH are fine. But i'd sooner slit my own throat than do a road trip with the parents and sister.....now anyway. I might have enjoyed it as a kid though.

My Bro is convinced that diesel in Europe is virtually free  And I think the plan is they give me a tin opener and wait for the beans :(

Which is why this is a sensible way to do it with family ~

I'm inclined to agree.

In a word: yes.

Thanks DarkJourney for deciphering what my unconscience is trying to tell me  And yes, the tunnel will make it even more claustophobic

Unfortunately not at that level. But Bro did win last years 'Streetfighter A' championship in the Thundersport GB series on a KMT Ducati.:p
And Dad sold his Ducati to buy the motorhome ~ I cry as I type that :wah:

I voted option 3. Unless your family is a pack of wolverines you'll eventually have that memory. That they may not all be great is par for the course. (You get to pick your freinds - not your family after all.) You'll never regret giving your family time and the pleasure of your company. You may very well regret not.

To be able to do both if at all possible is obviously the best of both worlds.

Don't let the tunnel worry you: you'd be in a tin can inside a tin can inside the tunnel!

True! And work have offered me some more hours... Oh shit, just thought about work! I know 2 of the girls are off in June already, this may be fate deciding for me ~ Go Fate I trust your judgement
