There is one, and only one, string attached. You must use a pop/rock song for the opening theme. You absolutely cannot have an orchestral/instrumental arrangement of any kind: it's got to be a song.

When ENT premiered on UPN they used this song in the promos. I thought it would have been a great theme for the show itself.

"Wherever You Will Go"; I can echo the thoughts of plenty of others when I say that passing that actually-decent song up for what we got was really disappointing. I hope whoever made the final call has nightmares to this day.

I still remember the second-ever promo for Enterprise, after that first one that was all, like, 'BEFORE JANEWAY AND SISKO... BEFORE KIRK AND PICARD... THERE WAS... ENTERPRISE. THIS FALL ON UPN.' That second promo, with "Wherever You Will Go" playing, looked super-cool.

Its the first version of that poem set to music I ever heard. I'm not usually moved by poetry but High Flight always brings a tear to my eyes. Set it to music and I need Kleenex.

I was so disappointed when I found out they weren't using it and doubly disappointed with what they did actually use...

I'm almost certain that the opening credits of Enterprise must have been designed with Wherever You Will Go in mind. The song just matches the visuals far too well. A lot of the scene transitions, especially on the chorus, are in sync with the beat and some of the lyrics even match up (witness "Way up high or down low"). I have to wonder if Faith of the Heart was perhaps a last minute replacement as such. Perhaps more executive meddling?
