And I finally had a chance to pick up the book yesterday, haven't read it yet since I'm in the middle of another I want to finish.

Didn't know there was one - I only knew of the (slight) reference to Vanguard in The Sorrows of Empire.

There's a Vanguard MU story called 'The Black Flag' in 'MU: Shards and Shadows' that is very good.

Yeah, I got as far as the last two stories, and it was one my top two or three. I plan on going back to it once I get caught up on the other stuff I wanted to read, so there is a chance it's ranking might change after I read them.
