Only Christopher Pike left from the Main Cast then?

If the Romulan Time line shenanigans is a load of dren, and old Spock is telling someone about Kirk I could see something like:

"I first heard the name James Kirk when I was at the academy. I found the fact that a human had beaten the no win scenario intriguing"

kobayashi maru flash back sequence

"But I never met him until he assumed command of the Enterprise"

Change of command ceremony on Enterprise hanger deck with Pike handing command over to Kirk

Then the role might be quite a small one.

Personally, I'm still waiting to see who they cast for Number One/Christine Chapel/Lwaxana Troi. How about... Rod Roddenberry? ;)

I have a wild prediction. A black actor will be cast as Pike and probably someone along the lines of Morgan Freeman.

I'm not being sarcastic or ironic. Just watch.

Actually there is an unnamed "Starfleet captain" character aside from Pike who is yet to be cast, according to TrekMovie.com. I'm hoping it will be a non-Caucasian woman.

^
^^Maybe the Unnamed Starfleet Captain will be the retired Captain James T. Kirk, living in the 24th century, played by William Shatner.

p.s. I'm not necessarily a crazed "bring back the Shat" type of guy...I just think that depending on the plot, there may be legitimate ways to include him in this film.

Unlikely. It's not like the whole cast of the movie is going to consist of just the Enterprise Seven plus Eric Bana. There are bound to be other Starfleet personnel in speaking roles.

Besides, the "Federation Captain" character has been known about for some time (according to TrekMovie.com), indicating that it's someone already in the script. And we know that there's no place for Shatner's Kirk in the existing script, which is why the filmmakers are saying they're still trying to figure out some way to work Shatner into the movie and Shatner is saying he's not in the movie at all as far as he knows.

He was the ONLY actor to play Pike in an episode that ACTUALLY AIRED in the 1960's or 1970's (except for the archival footage of Hunter from the failed, UNAIRED first pilot - which I say doesn't count. :p)

Sorry, mate, the Menagerie counts. Boycott the film. That'll make it a financial disater...

I really didn't have anyone in mind for pike but just kinda thinking about characters/actors I liked in shows. I was wondering about Ben Browder? I don't really think it will happen but was curious what others thought. Loved all the references he gave to trek in farscape and he led SG1, seems like he could fit into it.

Why can't Shatner play Kirk's father...I see it now! A double role, like when he played his own dead brother in Operation, Annilate.

Hey, Browder does kind of resemble Hunter... I'm lukewarm about him (Crichton, obnoxious jerk! Not my favourite thing about Farscape), but I think it'd be fun if he was in the movie. :)

I could buy Browder as Pike anyday.

Or how about a certain Philip J. Fry?

Wow, great photo comparison. Die his hair and he's a pretty darn close.

^ Ben Browder hasn't visibly aged since the first season of Farsape. He is actually 45 years old.

^ Yeah I think Browder is a few years older that Hunter was in "The Cage" so given that the movie either takes place around the same time or before (assumed) I don't see a problem. Liota on the other hand (as I have seen him mentioned several times) would seem to old to me.

I guess Fry would work too but he'd have to dye his hair..."Use the beeps!".

You know the genius of casting Browder is that is serves as a great reintroduction. You could get some TV specials or even a series out of the adventures of Chris Pike. (that's assuming this isn't the storyline where he gets mangled)

Somebody post a screencap of Browder in the SG episode "200" in command of an earth Ship, and it will seal the deal.

He's even leaning forward in a commanding position!

Surely Ben Browder has been associated with enough space opera franchises? If he appeared in ST, that would be his 3rd in a row. A little originality here people!

^ True...but alot of these actors who get into scifi get sorta typecast there....and can keep getting work as a result.

He probably doesn't want to be typecast...but work is work.
