One-year countdown thread!

I wonder if it will do as well as the the first. For the general population, 4 years may be too long a stretch to maintain the interest.

Well as I said in the other thread I hope I do not die before this.

ONE YEAR TO GO.

I guess it seemed to be taking soooo long before we heard anything that this seems just around the corner now :D

Yay for the countdown thread! And hopefully Australia will get it first like the last one, heh heh..

I thought it was being released on the 17th? Oh, well, that knocked 4 days off the wait for me :)

Or we could call it the 'Two Years Late' thread since it was suppose to originally come out in 2011.

Surprised that the domestic was twice that of the foreign, what with the huge following of trek world wide especially in the uk, germany and elsewhere
That part's pretty consistent with previous Trek films, though:

*** .. Domestic ................+ Foreign ...................= Total
TUC . $74,888,996 (77.3%) . $22,000,000 (22.7%). $96,888,996
GEN . $75,671,125 (64.1%) . $42,400,000 (35.9%) $118,071,125
FC ... $70,187,658 (62.3%) . $42,400,000 (37.7%) $112,587,658
INS .. $43,254,409 (64.3%) . $24,058,417 (35.7%).. $67,312,826
ST .. $257,730,019 (66.8%) $127,950,427 (33.2%) $385,680,446

Edit:

Numbers taken from Box Office Mojo - no international figures available for movies prior to TUC

They'll have forgotten that they had a good time at the first one? :wtf:

"Alien" (1979), "Aliens" (1986).

I don't think that the 4 year wait will hurt it much. I live in "No Fun City" and since the 2009 movie was released we have seen 2 Star Trek conventions and our first Fan Expo (with 3 TNG actors who were well received). This is no longer a "dead" franchise. It is no longer viewed as a memory from the past, people who talk about use the present tense again.

As Therin indicated, those who liked the movie the first time will remember they had fun, and those who didn't see the '09 film may be curious enough to venture to the cinema to see what the fuss is about.

I'm really looking forward to it!

Poor NEM. Not even a mention.

It's even better than that. I had Nemesis' numbers in there, but attributed to Insurrection, and Insurrection's numbers attributed to First Contact. That'll teach me to try multitasking.

I think I've got it repaired now:

I'm sure they've got an awesome advertising campaign ready to remind anyone who forgot how much fun the last Trek was.
Terminator had a looooooong gap between the first and second movies too.

What I want to know is....when are they going to reveal the title of the movie? I am sure they have it by now.

Didn't they wait to reveal the last movie's title until about five months before release date?

I am not sure I remember. I thought it had been known for a while, even before they pushed the date or release back 6 months until May 2009 that the name was going to be just "Star Trek." If I am wrong we may have to wait quite a while before we learn the name of the sequel.

never took much notice but how well did the last one do.

Did it exceed expectations ?
was is a box office success and if so how good ?

Most successful Trek movie ever!

this surprises me ....I know movies cost more now to make and with ticket prices going up it would take in more but still.

Also, as silly and annoying as it can be to die-hards to have hordes of fan girls jumping into a new genre just to see a hearththrob/favorite actor, numbers will I bet be extra good especially in the UK (but also worldwide) among those who've never see a Trek movie ever. The Batch has a pretty serious fanbase that would see anything he's in multiple times (and drag their boyfriends)--not to say that there isn't some serious nerdy-girl overlap in the fanbase already. (And, yes, I'm sure he has plenty of male fans, too, just generalizing)

I spent a few minutes digging, and found a 2007 interview which is cited by several Trek reference sites as evidence that the movie title was always going to be simply "Star Trek", but it reads to me as Orci and Kurtzman saying only that they hoped that's the way it would be. I also recall a fair amount of fan speculation on possible alternate titles or "Star Trek: ______" titles filling in the blank with tag-lines from posters (ex: "Star Trek: The Future Begins"). I'm pretty certain, though I haven't tracked it down yet, that I remember an official final statement concerning the title coming sometime after the announcement in December 2008 that all work had been completed and that the film was locked - quite late in the game, anyway.

I do beleive you are right as I reflect back. So unless the title gets leaked I will have to wait.
