One way to have improved Superman IV

the Dagman

Commodore
Commodore
Let me makes this clear: Superman IV was awful. The villains were bad, the story was worse, and their use of outer space was frankly insane.

But they could have made up for a lot of it with a minor change.

When Superman was fighting Nuclear Man on the Moon, they should have made it the same landing zone that Zod, Ursa and Non attacked in Superman II. They should have shown the crushed lander with the American and Russian flags thrown atop it, the spacesuits with the dead astro and cosmonauts inside, the whole deal. And instead of Superman merely righting the American flag as he did, show him giving those men a moon burial with the flags as the markers for their graves and then pausing for a moment of silent reflection for them.

I think that bit of continuity would have been the stand out moment for the entire film.

The best way to improve it would've been not to make it.

The other way would've been to ditch Nuclear Man and use Bizarro.

Actually I was reading wikipedia's article for Superman IV and apprently there was supossed to be two Nuculear Man. The first one looked a little like Bizzaro and falls to Superman in battle and forces Lex to make another one. This is also from the deleted scenes in the movie as well I belive.

They could have just cut out the bit between the Warner Bros logo and the end credits. That would have made it more bearable.

I agree. But also, they should've stopped rehashing old lines/situations from the older, better movies in lieu of original storytelling and character development. I'm sure the movie makers thought it was an homage perhaps but it came off as lazy writing to me. Plus, it was poorly done. And Lenny Luthor was perhaps the lamest Luthor henchmen in the series history.

The FX were laughingly bad and I still laugh at Nuclear Man taking Margot Hemingway into space. Though I have to admit that I liked the idea of Nuclear Man, and I think with some changes, not using Luthor's voice, perhaps not being Supes's blond clone, giving him more personality and motivation.

Then we'd be left with Superman III. We still wouldn't be better off.

The effects for Superman IV were SOOOOO cheap and extremely lame

Foam fire hydrant when Nuclear man blasts it

Black curtains on the moon.

Visible wires(Particularly when Superman and Nuclear man were fighting)

Notice the black curtain floor.

Well there's two ways of improving Superman VI one is that you don't let the star of the movie write the movie and you don't let Canon made the movie in the first place.

Yeah Superman IV had major budget problems apprently their funding was cut and they went ahead anyways with production of the movie. It really is horrible. I can't stand Lenny Luthor. They dropped Otis for Lenny, how is that an improvement?

Ned Beatty was too smart to come back for Superman 4.

And that's saying something.
