One thing you'd beam into a supernova

Which element of Trek would you eliminate?

Based on a few threads I've seen recently grousing (rightly so) about elements of Trek we don't like, I thought I'd start a poll to see which particular element is the most objectionable.

In other words, if you could get rid of one thing from Trek, what would it be? I mean, wave a wand and it's somehow excised from everything that's ever been made.

1. universal translator
2. holodeck
3. time travel
4. replicators
5. transporters
6. ESP/telepathy/empathy
7. interspecies compatibility
8. other--please elaborate

This is my first time creating a poll, so my apologies in advance for the inevitable mishaps.

EDIT--though I seem to have gotten it...fully functional without any problems.

ESP/telepathy/empathy because if I want magic, I'll watch David Copperfield...

emh's, ech's or holographic personnel of any kind...

not to knock Robert Picardo's performance, but any episode of Voyager where the Doctor has any lines other than "please state the nature of the medical emergency" is an automatic fail for me...

Doctor episodes were literally the only redeeming thing about Voyager. I have no clue how you arrived at this opinion.

Content: Eliminate replicators and holodecks. Make life seem a little harder for the Feds.

All those "fans" who start online petitions to stop any Trek movie or series from being made, and the entire concept of "personal canon."

ETA: And while we're at it, we can also jettison all those "fans" who still insist that everything wrong with Trek is all Berman and Braga's fault.

holodeck. no good ever came from a holodeck.

Exactly! Look, Star Trek is fiction. I know it's fiction. You know it's fiction. I see no real justifiable reason to add a second layer of fiction to the fiction I'm watching by showing a layer of fiction the characters are interacting with that's indestinguishable from their reality which we are supposed to accept as reality for the time we're watching it instead of the fiction that we know it is.

I voted for interspecies genetic compatibility. It never made sense. I love space opera and some bad science is always necessary for the genre, but the whole concept of human/alien hybrids makes no sense at all.

That made me LoL! Thanks for the LoL! I agree with the other guy though, the EMH was so overrated.

I'd pick a bunch of these, to be honest. Not the holodeck in its original form, but certainly as it later evolved (including the very possibility of sentient holograms). The replicator - oh God, yes. The replicator destroys so many story possibilities by its very existence. Transporters? A neat way around a conundrum in the 60s, but unnecessarily so - I'd get rid of them and just let shuttlecraft arrival happen off-screen. Telepathy/empathy: I'd keep this...But only if you can figure out how to write it effectively. Interspecies sexual/genetic compatibility? Uh, no thank you.

other--please elaborate: Basement-dwelling fanboys who cannot accept any new Trek or change from their personal fanatic version of Star Trek.
