"One moment in time...."

For Janeway, I think many of her best moments are when she's paired with the BORG Queen, and I'm not necessarily talking Seven of Nine.

QUEEN: Resistance is futile. You have failed them.
SEVEN: No!
QUEEN: We believed you would be an asset to us. We were wrong. You are weak.
JANEWAY: Don't listen to her, Seven. She's irrelevant. Call them off or I'll destroy you.
QUEEN: Your weapons are useless.
JANEWAY: Don't be so sure. My tactical officer is disabling the shields around this room. Tom, status.
PARIS [OC]: We've targeted the chamber, Captain.
JANEWAY: Let her go, or I'll give the order to fire.
QUEEN: You would be destroyed as well, along with your crewman.
JANEWAY: Better than being one of you. Tom, high-yield torpedoes, full spread. Fire on my command.

****************

Exquisite Janeway!

Two bittersweet Robert Picardo moments immediately come to mind

1. In Real Life - when his daughter is dying
2. Someone to Watch Over Me - realizing that Seven will only ever be a friend

These choices are probably because I'm a musician and a sucker for bittersweet music written in a minor key - it elicits similar sentiment.

No Chakotay or Harry Kim moments spring to mind......

I have to think about the others a little more

Love :techman: both of those moments. Good call.

As for Harry Kim, I will always be partial to the end of "Timeless".

(Naturally, it also has a healthy helping of Janeway. ;) )

JANEWAY: At ease. Am I interrupting?
KIM: No. I just came here to try to figure things out.
JANEWAY: Phase corrections.
KIM: The corrections I sent you were wrong. If you had used them, Voyager would have been heavily damaged, maybe even destroyed. What I can't figure out is who sent the other phase corrections to Seven of Nine.
JANEWAY: Looks like we've got a guardian angel.
KIM: Oh, I wish I could believe that.
JANEWAY: Believe it. His name is Harry Kim.
KIM: Captain?
JANEWAY: Seven found a Starfleet security code embedded in the transmission. Yours.
KIM: I'm telling you, I didn't send it.
JANEWAY: Not yet. The transmission had a temporal displacement. We believe it originated from the future. Ten, twenty years from now. We can't be sure.
KIM: Wait a second. If I sent a message from the future and changed the past, then that future would no longer exist, right? So, how could I have sent the message in the first place? Am I making any sense?
JANEWAY: My advice in making sense of temporal paradoxes is simple. Don't even try. To me all that matters is that somewhere, somehow, sometime, you come through for us. Well if you won't take it from me, take it from you. Seven found a log entry encoded in the telemetry. From Harry Kim, to Harry Kim.
KIM [on monitor]: Hello, Harry. I don't have much time, so listen to me. Fifteen years ago, I made a mistake and one hundred and fifty people died. I've spent every day since then regretting that mistake, but if you're watching this right now, that means all of that has changed. You owe me one.
EMH [OC]: Mister Kim, your assistance please.
KIM [on monitor]: Got to go.

^^ That scene gives me goosebumps!

I really like Janeway's memorial service and Kate's performance in Coda. We hardly see Janeway cry and it's kinda sweet that Harry's story and the memories of that away mission made her cry. I just wished they'd shown us that away mission :D

Janeway- "Basics" (When Janeway is giving the survival speech how they'll have to eat bugs if need be to survive. That's the moment Janeway cemented herself as a worthy Captain to me.)

Chakotay- "Nemesis" (This episode showed what great potential Chakotay had as a character & Beltran had as an actor if given a worthy shot.)

Tuvok- "Once Upon a Time"( I was going to pick "Meld" but I remembered his speech to Sam Wildman in this ep. and though emotionless, his words to her couldn't help but pull at your heart strings.)

Be'Lanna- "Dreadnaut" (Roxanne Dawson carries his ep. all by herself. The entire ep. is her playing off a computer voice of herself, when in reality she isn't playing off of anything. She's brilliant!)

Tom Paris-"Real Life" (The scene where Tom is telling the Doc. what it's like to have family you lost and yet what you can gain from it as well. It's a first time we see a serious side to Tom, the most unlikely person at the time to offer sound advice and that's what makes the scene work IMO.)

Neelix- "Once Upon a Time" ( I find this a very underrated and overlooked episode. It was awesome to see Neelix bring down is mask of joy and show his true fear & sorrow. From the scene where he's praying to his sister to his breakdown on the bridge with Janeway, Neelix became the character I was always waiting to see.)

Harry Kim- "Deadlock" (Harry was the action hero in this ep.! I know it was an idea Garrett Wang wanted the writers to expand on for his character. Yet all we got to hear was talk about Harry's althletic prowess but never to see it again. This was the dude I wanted Harry Kim to be.)

Kes- "Before & After" (Jen Lien always seemed more comfortible playing roles outside of Kes' regular personality, than as Kes normally was. Lien seems almost natural playing an older version of Kes, more so than as young Kes. I think Lien may have surprised us if allowed to explore Kes growing into maturity.)

The Doc.- "Real Life"( It's the first ever ep. of Trek to bring a tear to my eye. Half of that was Robert Picardo. The scene when he understands Belle is going to die. He turns his head upward not to look at her, stiffens, closes his eyes and says: "Computer, end program!" Picardo is just freakin' awesome in all he does.)

Seven- "Raven"(When Seven is talking about how she was assimilated and goes from the voice of a scared girl to a cold heartless Borg voice, I knew she was going to be a character to give the show the kick it needed.)

However, there are small scenes between characters that stand out too.
Tuvoks hand slowly touching Janeways shoulder as they're about to face death in "Twisted".
Neelix telling Be'Lanna to use him as a sounding board for her anger in "Day of Honor".
Janeway & Seven's debate over the fate of Species 8472 in "Prey", for example....

Excellent Exodus, truly memorable moments.

And if I may add... the scene in YOH, where Janeway hugs Tuvok... and then we see Tuvok respond to the hug and her being lights up before she has to let him go or she'll start to cry.

Couldn't have said it better myself, KJ!

Only too be topped for me by Janeway & Be'Lanna's hug in "Barge of the Dead" or Seven's "Niomi Wildman, where is your mother?"

I don't care what folks say about inconsistency and lazy writing. These are the moments for me, that make Voyager worthy TV.

Anyone who's read my fan-novel STV: "Counting in Time", knows how I feel about THAT particular scene! :adore:

J'Rulz, what the dilly? I was actually thinking about this exact topic earlier this evening. As in, before I knew you had posted this thread. You must have read my mind.

Janeway: "Basics", when Kim is cutting off her hair. No ship, no weapons, no food, and a dude is sawing off her hair with a rock - and you can see from the look on her face that she is still not going to give up.

The Doc: Probably some moment in "Real Life" is the best, but I'll choose a happier moment. "Blink of an Eye" when he jumps off the transporter pad and throws his arms around Janeway. He was one hundred percent human right then.

I'm going to have to think a bit more about the others.

exodus - some good moments there too.

I was going to mention Once Upon a Time (it was just on tv again yesterday) - excellent episode for Neelix.

Also, agree with you on Basics too. The other good episodes for Janeway were:
Sacred Ground - where she struggled with science//faith issues,
Futures End
Bride of Chaotica - for some "out of character" fun!

Warlord -Jennifer Lien

henbane:

Warlord -Jennifer Lien

Love that ep.

Love "Before & After".

Jen really rocks in both.

I'm just trying my darndest to spread the Voy love around, AMG. We need more positive vibes in our lives, and remembering these "moments" is the best way for me to revive them. (Revibe them? ;) )

Edited to add... OMG I forgot to agree with AMG!

AMG ALSO said...

No ship, no weapons, no food, and a dude is sawing off her hair with a rock -and you can see from the look on her face that she is still not going to give up.

I :adore:THAT scene for THAT reason.

She doesn't believe in the "No Win" scenario!

Upon further reflection:

Chakotay: "Equinox" - stopping Janeway from continuing her dubious interrogation of Noah Lessing.

Tuvok: I'm going to agree with Exodus here, and list his encouraging talk to Samantha Wildman in "Once Upon A Time". Although I also really like how he talked Janeway down in "Scientific Method". ("Shall I have them flogged as well?") I like Tuvok when he's showing that he is capable of comforting his friends when they are emotionally overwrought.

Seven: Her speech to Janeway in "Latent Image" - challenging her mentor on behalf of her friend. Honorable mention to her destroying the robot in the Captain Proton program in "Night", just because it's pure Seven and pure funny.

Kim: I guess in "Timeless", when he prevented himself from killing everybody. Not too fond of him, tough to pick a good moment.

Neelix: "Mortal Coil" - when he's viewing his own holographic death and reflecting on his beliefs in the afterlife. IMHO, this was the first time his character ever seemed like something other than a bad joke.

Kes - I like Kes, but I can't really think of an outstanding moment for her. I do really like the Warlord scenes where she's all badass, but that isn't really Kes, so . . . I dunno.

Torres - I'm not keen on Torres, so I had to scrape the bottom of the barrel for this. "Caretaker", when she is the only person to vigorously oppose Janeway's decision to destroy the Array. Janeway was right, of course, but realistically, more people should have disagreed with her, so I'm pleased that Torres had the guts to do so openly.

Paris - I like him, and I especially like his goofiness. So, I'll vote for the scene in "Bride of Chaotica!" when he's explaining to Janeway how she should act in the Captain Proton simulation.

Aiiyyyeeee.

Jrulz! has just collapsed from a phaser blast to the heart. AMG isn't Keen on Torres? Ack. Ack.. MEDIC!

Torres "moments". She wants one moment in time.... When she's more than she thought she could be

"Prime Factors" when she goes against her best friend Seska's plan to erase their involvement in the near breech of the warp core.

TORRES: But we’re going to. We disobeyed orders, gambling that it would pay off. It didn’t. And now we just can’t pretend that nothing happened.
SESKA: I don’t understand. There’s no need for this.
TORRES: I’m sorry if you don’t get it, Seska, but it has something to do with … with being able to live with yourself.
SESKA: That doesn’t sound like you. You’ve changed.
TORRES: If that’s true, I take it as a compliment.

She prays... When all of my dreams are a heartbeat away And the answers are all up to me...

The end of "Prototype", when Janeway sits down with her in the messhall to discuss Torres' refusal to "obey orders".

TORRES: I don't know what to say.
JANEWAY: As far as I'm concerned you did what you thought was necessary to ensure the safety of this crew.
TORRES: Thank you.
JANEWAY: It must have been difficult.
TORRES: Difficult?
JANEWAY: To destroy what you created.
TORRES: It was necessary.
JANEWAY: I read your report. It was no small achievement, B'Elanna. You gave that unit life.
TORRES: You should have seen it, Captain. It was incredible. I installed that module and the prototype looked up at me and asked me for programming.
JANEWAY: As I said, it must have been difficult.
TORRES: It was necessary.

She begs... Give me one moment in time... When I'm racing with destiny...Then in that one moment of time I will feel I will feel eternity

Near the end of "Dreadnought". (Exodus is so right about this show, I need to just hightlight the whole damn thing!)

DREADNOUGHT: This vessel is programmed to respond with all necessary force to prevent any disruption to its mission.
TORRES: Unless I'm mistaken, you're out of options, Dreadnought.
DREADNOUGHT: Analysis of your vital signs suggest you are about to lose consciousness, B'Elanna.
TORRES: I'm not going anywhere until I'm finished.
DREADNOUGHT: When you cease your efforts to breach the containment field life support will be restored.
TORRES: No deal.

[Voy Bridge]

VOYAGER COMPUTER: Warning. Self destruct sequence has been initiated. Warp core overload in three minutes.
JANEWAY: Increasing velocity. Preparing to adjust our heading to intercept.

[Dreadnought]

JANEWAY [OC]: Janeway to Torres.
TORRES: Yes.

[Voy Bridge]

JANEWAY: This is your last chance to get back here. I have to launch the last escape pods.

[Dreadnought]

TORRES: I understand, Captain. I'm almost finished. . Let me stay.

[Voy Bridge]

VOYAGER COMPUTER: Warning. Self destruct sequence has been initiated. Warp core overload in two minutes.

[Dreadnought]

DREADNOUGHT: Containment field at twenty percent and falling. Perhaps your Delta quadrant hypothesis deserves further consideration.
TORRES: Nice try. Who would have thought two years ago, after all those weeks we spent together perfecting your program, that we'd end up out here trying to kill each other.
DREADNOUGHT: Probability assessment did not anticipate this outcome.

Lt. B'Elanna Torres....The Klingon Princess and a worthy addition to the pantheon of Trekkian Gods and Goddesses. :)

Yeah, those are all fine Torres moments . . . but!

The reason I'm not keen on her is that these moments are canceled out by utter stupidity, like, "Oh, hey, I'll violate whatever rights the doctor has so that he will alter my perfectly healthy baby's DNA, which is a necessary procedure because some brat put a bug in my sammich when I was a kid." And both of her annoying halves in "Faces". And the entire episode "Juggernaut". And etc etc.

Torres, to me, is like Chakotay - much better in fan fiction than in canon.

PS: Hope you get over your heart stoppage soon, J'Rulz. :)

PS: Hope you get over your heart stoppage soon, J'Rulz. :)

J'Rulz was pronounced at 5:55 pm today, after the priest administered the last rites. :(

Calling hours will be Monday, 4-6 and 7-9pm. The funeral will be Tuesday when her remains are expected to be shot into outerspace encased in a photon torpedo tube.

In lieu of flowers, please donate to the "Bring Captain Janeway back" fund.

Another great moment was Janeway's fairwell speech in Resolutions! I loved how at first she was laughing and having fun with Chakotay and the moment Tuvok hailed them she was all business. The look she gave Chakotay and his nod, then her emational speech. I love Kate's short reaction to Tuvok's "[...] we will always remember your grace and courage [...]", that slight head tilt. She says so much without actually speaking.
