If you watch carefully, you'll see Shatner bang the console as he dives forward, causing the tapes to spill off the back side.

Yes, the Gorn had to be realistic looking otherwise that would have been a laughable moment, like some of the aliens in Lost in Space.

Those chunky phaser beams in the original FX, what were sometimes red, yellow or blue.

Thin orange beams in other Treks (or pencil thin blue ones in TOS-R) were never as cool.

Yes, the Gorn had to be realistic looking otherwise that would have been a laughable moment, like some of the aliens in Lost in Space.

I don't know some of the later LIS aliens like Gilt Proto looked quite good! They even had their own version of Mr.Spock in a blue skinned Ronald Gans!
