I'm glad that didn't get made. The Romulans aren't that bad.

I agree that it probably would've been mentioned if the Romulans had decimated Vulcan and nuked Tellar and sent a black hole into Andoria, but remember that we live on a planet with Germany as one of the senior members of the European Union, only 70 years after they fought a massive war with everyone and practiced the worst ethnic cleansing we have seen.

The Romulan Star Empire of the 2150s is not the same as the RSE of the 2260s or the 2370s. Just like Germany of the 1940s is not the same as Germany of the 2010s (or, for that matter, Germany of the 1910s).

All the Trek shows have been mostly human, probably because it’s cheaper to stick an extra in a jumpsuit and nothing else. Only the rebooted films attempted to show a more diverse crew and Federation, it was one of the ways they were actually a better depiction of the Federation.

The bigger problem with Discovery than just being a "Homo Sapiens" club is being a "Americans only" club. Why are Lorca and Tyler American characters?
This pissed me off with Enterprise as well. Everyone cries about the Enterprise intro's crap song, but the real slap in the face is the completely erasure of the actual pioneers of space, the incredibly brave Cosmonauts being flung into Orbit on ICBMs.

This pissed me off with Enterprise as well. Everyone cries about the Enterprise intro's crap song, but the real slap in the face is the completely erasure of the actual pioneers of space, the incredibly brave Cosmonauts being flung into Orbit on ICBMs.

It is very strange that the show that is supposedly about humanity and space exploration failed to include in its intro Sputnik, Yuri Gagarin, Valentina Tereshkova and so on from the Soviet space program but had plenty of NASA-related stuff. Maybe that is one of the reasons Enterprise flopped with low ratings.

Whatever else contributed to Enterprise's low ratings, it wasn't the fact it's credits focused exclusively on American achievements in space exploration. I guarantee no one watching that decided "hey, why aren't they acknowledging to Soviet contributions to space exploration? I'm watching another channel instead."

Its an American show so its Terrancentric and North American centric. In universe Starfleet needs to up it quota of non white, American males if it really wants to reflect a United Earth. It could be the in universe reason there are mainly humans running the show, the Vulcans, Andorians and Tellarites etc are not that interested. The novels reflect a more diverse crew, best to assume on tv the rest of the fleet is a better reflection of IDIC cos the TOS Enterprise and Discovery are not.

I actually wonder if in universe this "lack of interest" might be key. Vulcans are generally shown to be more cautious than humans, whilst Tellarites for all their bellicosity are typically quite timid, Andorians do have a tendency to be somehwat inward looking at times and more inclined to see space travel as a military than exploratory endeavour. Perhaps the temperament of humans is just more suited to exploration? After all it has been a recurring theme in ST how quickly humans spread and develop their technology, rapidly matching or outstripping species which have been in space for centuries (Klingons, Romulans, Vulcans, possibly even the Borg eventually, bear in mind by First Contact/Endgame we see starfleet tech holding it's own). Maybe humans are just more likely to join starfleet?

Based on what we see on the show you might be right, that might the in universe reason, which means the real life reason is either based on lazy writing, by presenting humans as diverse and all other aliens as made up of monocultures or budget restrictions or a little of both.
If there was ever a Star Trek show showing how United Earth came to be I suspect the Terran centricism we see on the show would be replaced by a dominance of Americanism which would still make it culturally biased based on lazy writing or subconscious racism.
Russia and China are very space conscious nations, and yet Star trek ENT was dominated by White American males sent out to represent a United Earth...what in universe reason can one can up with that?
