On a Fact Finding Mission from Fan Fic!

Over in the Fan Fic section the Silverfin may soon be facing off against a newly formed Maquis, that are trying to rearm and continue the violence against the Cardassians.

Werebeagle asked if I'd be including any Maquis crewmembers from Voyager, and seeing as how I'm making it up as I go, I hadn't thought about it.

So I'm here to ask: what former Maquis on Voyager would you think would make a good adversary for my Border Dogs?

Don't bother. The Maquis are a bore.

Word. There were only ever three interesting Maquis, none were from Voyager, and they're all dead anyway.

First let me say I love the Silverfin and the border service stories.

What do the Maquis want that they don't already have? Cardassia Prime still exist, but it difficult to believe that the powers that won the Dominion War will permit the Cardassians to hang on the their empire and their various conquests. Certainly the territory that the Federation and the Cardassian Union fought so hard over (the Maquis former home star systems) would be removed from the Cardassians grasp, the Maquis could return home to rebuild their lives (those Maquis left alive). Other planets in the same situation as Bajor once found itself in (occupation) would be freed to sovereign independence by the Federation.

With the mass death the Dominion caused on Cadassia Prime, there is likely plenty of room for the occupants of multiple Cardassian conquest colonies to be repatriated back to Cardassia.

Very true.

But my thoughts on it are that there would be numerous colonies that would have been hit and / or occupied by the Cardassians and the Dominion over the course of the war. On top of that you would have a lot of people that would have lost family and friends and would be looking for revenge, and killing Cardassians might be a focus for that.

The New Maquis wouldn't be so interested in freeing their homes, but in making the Cardassians suffer and taking out their loss on them. With the Starfleet spread thin and still rebuilding they wouldn't have the resources they need to tackle a small bunch of thugs, on top of everything else they have to see to. Besides some of the New Maquis might blame Starfleet as much ast the Cardassians, after all they are the ones responsible for safeguarding Federation colonies and citizens.

I'll expand the list of possible old Maquis, to include any from TNG and DS9 as well. It's not essential that one of the New Maquis be an established character, thought it might just be a little treat to add.
