OMG, I just had a 9 3/4 year old kid tell me...

Oddly enough, this was used around here as an argument both for and against redesigning the ship: the general public can't tell much of a difference.
Geeze, I saw the difference between the TV & movie Serenitys for gosh sakes! The difference between TOS & new movie Enterprise is like a hundred times greater. :wtf:

If I ran a theatre, I'd say nobody comes into a Star Trek movie without a phaser, communicator or tricorder! That'd keep out the dopey non-fans that can't tell one nacelle from the next!!!

[Agent Smith]Do you hear that Mr. Chrisisall? That is the sound of inevitability. That is the sound of your franchise's death.[/Agent Smith]

I conjure that to be a rudeness.:p
The next time I hear that out of your keyboard, Mr. Smith, I will, as surely as I'm wearin' this pretty floral bonnet, end you.
Gorram Purlplbelly.

:guffaw:

while we were watching the remastered episode "I, Mudd," that my Playmates NuE prominently on display was "exactly" the same as the Enterprise onscreen! My Son (his friend) attempted to point out what he felt were the significant differences, but the kid couldn't see them, and yes, his eysight is good.

We are a detail-blind culture, I fear. Awash in the bland backwash of simplistic perception and sheepish ignorance to iconic design.

Or maybe my Son's friend just ain't a Trek fan.

Amazingly, my oldest younger brother (18) who has seen very little Star Trek all in all (some of the movies and a few TOS episodes) actually noticed some differences.

I was impressed and a little frightened.

That is frightening. Quick! Make him hip and trendy, there's hope for him yet!

When I took my wife (who is NOT a Trek fan) to see ST, she remarked afterwards that "it's great that they didn't make any changes to the original Enterprise."

She laughed like crazy when I informed her of the small design changes that had indeed been made and the many months of atomic warfare they had caused on Trek message boards.

Y'know, they're basically right, though. In many ways, Churches design is a less radical change than TMP's refit. She's just a bit more curvy now.;)

Nah, more like everything problems.
That indicates broad & systematic error, the lines & proportions of the exterior seem spot-on, that's my main concern. When you zoom in tight, yeah, there's lots of "creativity'" in use, but the overall look is accurate, is it not?:wtf:

Well, the overall look is fine. As far as any casual viewer goes, it is the new Enterprise. However, little inconsistencies in the lines make up for large inconsistencies in the actual silhouette. Not a problem, unless you actually want to use it to compare stuff or be nitpicky.

You can find a few (small) renders here to compare, though sadly they don't seem ortographic (or perhaps it's simply the lighting) and thus, again, not of much use in being nitpicky.

When I was a kid back in the 80s, I didn't realize there was any difference between the TOS Enterprise and the movie Enterprise. I also didn't give a f*** about Star Trek.

The differences aren't all that big to non-Trek fans.

On further comparison between the online schematics & my Playmates E, I find small inaccuracies in the forward part of the pylon-to-nacelle connection, the lowest part of the primary hull, and, the photon torpedo launcher looks to be a little low as well. Still, nothing to go all "Tracy" over.:guffaw:
