CNN Thingy(tm) said:
The explosion, reported about 11:30 a.m., caused sections of the roof to collapse at the ConAgra Foods plant in Garner, Mayor Ronnie Williams said.

"There was no warnings, no signs," Williams said. "It all happened very abruptly."

The Garner plant is known for producing Slim Jim beef jerky products.

I eat one just about every time I fill up my gas tank. Stop in, grab a can of Monster and a Slim Jim and pay the clerk. Also when I'm out biking. I'll grab a bottle of water and a Slim Jim. In fact I eat them quite often!

This sucks. While I feel bad for those injured they better have emergency plans in place to ensure an uninterrupted supply to my town... especially the Nacho ones.

Plecostomus,

That town I'm going to be living in very soon. Couldn't believe it in my own eyes after I heard the terrible news. My hearts going out to those families.

1) Despite my humor I really do feel bad for those affected, they'll be out of work for weeks while OSHA goes over that place with a fine tooth comb... not to mention those injured. Burns are zero fun.

2) That said, since you are going to be living there you are my new best friend. PM me we will figure out a way for you to steal them directly from the plant and ship them to me. :D

More than 38 people were hurt, three critically. It sounds like they'll all survive, but there are still three people missing. Hopefully, they'll be found alive, but it doesn't look too good.

My heart and prayers to the victims and families of all involved, but if I may be so bold, how the hell does a Slim Jim factory explode?

J.

^ Bovine Terrorists?

But on a serious note, this is quiet sad. I hope they find everyone alive and well. To many have died from freak accidents lately, in factories or planes.

Based on my understanding, it was either a gas leak in an oven/fryer/dryer machine or they accidentally mixed Spicy flavor with Mild flavor and had a catastrophic run away flavor/anti-flavor annihilation reaction.

I live like 30 minutes or so from there. Imagine my surprise, when watching "The Price is Right" this morning, to see footage of this. Apparently two people were killed.

Probably a gas leak of some sort. Any big factory is going to have some kind of gas/explosive chemicals around.

What I can't belive is that somebody under 60 watches ''the price is right'' *on a serious note, I hope those people will be okay*:(

When I saw the news, the first thing I thought of was that those things had been getting greasier over the years.

I just saw on the news, they say two are dead.
Plecostomus ain't kidding, that place is going to be under a fine comb for a long while. Apparently they were fined for health and safety two years ago.....

There is a plant in Avon NY that is the only source of Cool Whip in the world, also the source of those Lunchable things.

Scary to think that major brands of essential junk-food only have a single source. The destruction of the Slim Jim plant is a serious blow by itself but imagine the chaos caused by an interruption in the supply of Doritos or Ho Hos!
