'Old'Spock in Trek 12 ?

It would be good if they could work in the rather tasteful Shatner cameo they planned for Trek II, and Leonard Nimoy would apparently consider appearing, despite his 'retirement'.

It would be an ideal send off for them both, and there's certainly a little unfinished business for Spock. We need to see the Vulcan rebuilding effort and Old Spock really should share a meld with New Spock while they can...

To oldly go...?

I like Shatner and Nimoy just as much as anyone, but I do think the baton was passed in Star Trek XI. Let the new kids take it from there.

I loved seeing Nimoy's Spock one last time in STXI. I'm thrilled that they didn't senselessly kill him off (see: Kirk in Generations) and that he was left with a new "mission" - leading the new Vulcan colony. It wasn't the end of Nimoy's Spock, but it was good-bye.

No need to bring him back, and certainly no need for Shatner's Kirk beyond some two-second sight gag or other.

All that said, I was very much anticipating Spock Prime's further adventures in the "expanded universe" of the novels - and was gutted when The Hazard of Concealing (where various factions vie for his future knowledge) was put on indefinite hold.

I'm pretty sure, and I hope, that they're done with the old versions of Kirk and Spock. Don't need to see them again...

Shame on you...:sigh:

No, he's right. Old Kirk and Spock had their time on both the big and small screen. Nimoy passed the torch on to the new incarnation of trek in the last film. Their time is over and the new versions will be the face of trek for the foreseeable future.

Were they passing a torch or a hot potato?

Let's continue on with the new guys from here.

[Full disclosure: I would still squeal like a little girl if it were announced that Nimoy would be in the next film.]

If there's a small cameo by Shatner as whoknowswhat, I don't really mind. But for the love of God people, stop wishing for the old actors to reprise their old roles! It's done!! It's over!! Accept it for what it is and move on!

I'd have been on board with this, but saw the film (for only the second time) last night and was struck by the way that there is a real job for Spock in the new universe.

Yes, wanting a Shatner cameo is pure fannishness, but I hated Generations and want a different resolution for the character, or at least a better farewell !

You want them to attempt to make current day Shatner look younger than he did in "Generations", just so he can tape his 'Happy Birthday' message for Spock?

We don't need to see Old Spock. All they need to do is say reconstruction on New Vulcan is underway, then we can figure out the rest. They don't even really need to say that either since it's assumed. We might find out how the Vulcans are doing via Spock catching up with Sarek or someone else; and/or Spock telling Kirk and/or Uhura.

It would be an ideal send off for them both

They had an ideal send off in Star Trek VI. The fact that Generations screwed that up and they keep using these actors somewhat cheapens that. Let the new cast have their few movies, and leave the old stuff for novels.

There's a "real job" for anyone they want to include, but these movies are about Kirk and Spock and the crew of the Enterprise doing interesting and exciting things. There is no need to shoehorn in a fan-centric storyline about Vulcan's reconstruction, and in fact it would be a bad idea.

How many send offs do Leonard Nimoy and William Shatner need? Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country (1991) was intended to be the send off of the TOS characters.

It was a treat to see Leonard Nimoy in Star Trek (2009), but another appearance of Leonard Nimoy as Spock Prime in a new film would be overkill.
