A few months back I was playing around with Google and found old newsgoup posts all the way back into the early 80's. people discussing spoilers for upcoming Star Trek III and Return of the Jedi. I don't remember how I got there. Can anyone help?

You can use the Google Groups interface to search for specific terms or phrases within a specific range of dates. See here. Some of the old newsgroups that I have enjoyed looking through include: net.tv, net.movies and net.startrek.
