OK, I'm watching Arrested Development

I've actually just been rewatching the show and I only have 2 episodes left. It is definitely the funniest show of the past decade, perhaps ever. It's just so crammed full of so many jokes every kind, flying around willy nilly through the air. Visual gags, word play, slapstick, background blink-and-you'll-miss gags, call backs, call fowards, the raunchiest dialogue you'll ever hear on network TV brilliantly couched in innocent double entendre...

The first season is funny but not as funny as the next two years. I used to think S3 wasn't as funny as S2, but rewatching it now it is so damn hilarious. I agree that the first half of S1 is only moderately great, then it picks up thru S1, then in S2 it's full-on amazing.

For example, Tobias is a subconsciously-bi/gay therapist. He decides to combine analysis and therapy into a new job and spreads around these business cards:
Tobias Funke: Analrapist

For example, GOB is talking about how he judges beauty contests just to sleep with the third place winners with low self-esteem: "and then I'll lay her crown upon my sweet head"

For example, their lawyer's name is Bob Lablaw. He has a law blog. Bob Lablaw's Law Blog.

I love this show, watched it all the way through a couple years ago and just recently started watching it with my wife, who has never seen it.

We are halfway through season one...I am realizing that the beginnning is slow, as everyone has said, as she has gone from "eh, it's ok" to laughing a lot during the episodes.

When it is all done, believe me, you will remember it as being amazing. If you are a fan of things like Curb Your Enthusiasm, remember that this show was on network TV in like 2001 before that show was big and you will see how ahead of its time it was.

OK, I've finished season 1 and it is getting better. Though, I must say, it's still not really that memorable of a show, even though there have been some laugh out loud mements. I do like that the entire cast does commentary, together, on some episodes, which was fun to listen to. And they have some documentary type stuff as extras. That helps connect you to the cast more than you might otherwise be just watching the show in its original run. I am looking forward to season two, though. I'm starting to like some of the characters and want to know how things turn out for them.

I think the thing that stitches it together really well is Ron Howard's narration.

I mean, Ritchie Cunningham narrating all this strange stuff is just DAMN funny!

Well, I loved it from the very first episode.

One of the best comedies of all time, IMHO.

Signed,
Tobias Funke, Analrapist

I think Gob was my favorite character just because of his over the top speaking style. Cracked me up all the time.

I watched the pilot and was "ehh", I did buy season 2 through for $10 at Target, we shall see what the big deal is.

So you're skipping all of season 1? That will make it harder to pick up on all the running gags going on.

Arrested Development is my favorite show of all time and I doubt any show will be able to dethrone it.

There's a lot of talk about Arrested Development returning as a movie in the next year or two, and I'm really hoping it happens. Even if it does poorly like Serenity and fails to make enough money for sequels (but I can see an Arrested film doing pretty well if they also make it accessible to the general public like along with including jokes that hardcore fans like me would only understand) it would be great to see the Bluth family return one last time.

It's a hilarious show and quite acclaimed, too. If you don't like it, it's probably because you're not sophisticated enough and don't "understand" the humor. That's ok - you can always watch "Everybody Loves Raymond" and "Mama's Family" instead.

That's one of the things that turns me off right away.

Me too. I'm happy I saw AD and FireFly before I heard about them on this and other boards, or I never would have touched either of them.

's why I can't watch Buffy. I try to watch an episode and all I can hear is posters from here saying "BEST EVAR!", "Hilarious dialog!", "Wonderful characterization!!!!!!". But what is on my screen is nothing more than a slightly above average idea stretched to the breaking point with l'esprit d'escalier dialog. No thanks.

I just have something in me that has to hate things that are popular. That, and I avoid things with David Cross in them.

If you hate things that are popular you should LOVE Arrested Development. After all, nobody watched it, that's why it got cancelled

Great show though.:techman:

A lot of the show's actors have been popping up in movies all over the place, so I think they've got a little more face and name-recognition at this point. I've been especially noticing Jason Bateman and Will Arnett showing up in a bunch of pretty high-profile movies, which could bode well for a possible AD movie.
