Ok, after the 1st rewatch it starts getting boring

This is a funny topic to see, because I just started my dad in on watching TNG, and he wanted to start at the beginning and go all the way through.

I think that the good Trek (the stuff I'd been choosing to re-watch when I felt like it - BOBW, The Defector, Chain of Command, Ensign Ro) is wonderful to rewatch, but S1 is really, really rough. "Code of Honor" was bad enough to watch once, but this is about the third time I've seen it, and...ungh. I'll agree that there are individual eps that are so bad as to be virtually un-rewatchable. The funny thing is, you don't remember until after you've watched them exactly how bad they really were.

As I've only seen Voyager eps usually once, sometimes twice, part of me is considering buying the series and re-watching that show. But part of me is really, really worried that it's going to be worse than I remember (the same goes for Enterprise.)

Every time I go to rewatch I have to do it in order because I can't ever pick out a single episdoe. I always think "eh, that one's kinda boring" or "eh, seen it too many times." But then when I watch them in order I always enjoy it. Kinda weird, I guess.

The fourth season of TNG is the best of the TNG series ,the only boring thing about it is the first season.

Even the first season had some great stuff, like the end of "Conspiracy".

Remmick: "We seek peaceful co-existence!"

Picard: **** that! (Blows Remmick's head up)

^ It did - personally, I just looooove Conspiracy, love it, love it, love it. I also loooooove The Neutral Zone, and there are other first-season episodes that even if I can't find it in my heart to love them, I do at least like them. And the second season also has some excellent episodes, including Measure of a Man, which is on a lot of people's list of all-time favorite Trek episodes, and with good reason.

I think people (including me) sometimes forget about those episodes when they dismiss the first two seasons out of hand. But Code of Honor and The Outrageous Okona, horrible as they are (IMO), shouldn't be allowed to completely overshadow the really great stuff. And there is some great stuff there.

I think that TNG season 1 is possibly the worst thing created in Star Trek's long history, but for some reason I don't find it boring. It is so bad that it is eerily compelling; I hate the season but I can watch it.

You can't 'disagree' to the taste of someone. That's silly.

"I disagree that you don't like cherry".

wtf.

It's personal taste. Wise up. Come on, that's the most trivial thing in the universe.

BTW, 1st season isn't that spectacularly worse than the rest.

What are you talking about.

OK it's not the best thing in the universe but it's well watchable compared to anything else in TNG.

What *IS* disappointing is the ending 1 or 2 seasons of the series, *NOT* because they aren't good but expecting them to be something special, being the last ones, they are just something of the same but slightly better.

So what, you came into the TNG forum to bash the series for what again? I mean you come across as angry at people who are replying to your post and I'm wondering why you're trying to achieve other than A) pissing off a lot of people or B) just being a troll. I'd hate to think it was option B.

Also, what did you expect from this series. I don't think it's very special either. I just think it's very very good and it has a close meaning to me.

"After the first rewatch..." That means when you watch the series for the third time right? =P

First Watch
First Rewatch
After the First Rewatch

I guess it might seem a little boring when watching it for the third time, specially in a row.

Funny thing about the First Season (and the Second): When it's bad it's because it's cheesy as hell, with full blown 80's sillyness. Rarely boring. But when episodes from Season 3-7 are bad it's because they are very very boring usually. Essentialy a "Who cares?" episode... Like most of Season 7.

So I agree with GodBen it seems.

If anything, the only thing that was boring was the Music! And sometimes the Directing...
Damn you Berman for firing people like Ron Jones and Rob Bowman! And restraining those who remained...

Must be a kid with a short attention span.

I find STNG by far the easiest series to rewatch and most enjoyable.

RAMA

TNG still has plenty of rewatchability for me, except for anything involving Troi in a primary role (90s PCness at its very worst), 'Face Of The Enemy' excepted.

I've started to "rewatch" TNG again, after 4 years away from Trek and i'm already half way through the first season. Really enjoying it again, even the episodes I didn't like as much before.
It's a bit annoying though, when I watch an episode, get 3/4 of the way through it not remembering a thing about it and then BANG I remember how it ends. Bleh.

^ Oh, that happens to me all the time, J Archer. Makes me crazy. If my memory is bad enough that I can't remember the episode most of the way through, why does it have to kick in right when a bad memory would be useful since it would allow me to enjoy the show a bit more?

Some episodes I tend to see on TV alot I am bored of such as the ambassador sarek is getting old show, but others like the once where the little cute robots that fix things are alive i really like because I haven't seen em as much. So I guess I only get bored of it if i see it all the time.

TNG is one of those series I have grown comfortable with, I can sit and watch it or leave it on in the background and still enjoy it after all these years.

...

Yeah, I really like those episodes as well. Another one from season one that I enjoyed is Skin of Evil.

I'll admit that TNG doesn't seem as great now as I remember from when I was a kid, and there are far more mediocre and bad episodes than there were good ones. But man, were the good ones good.

Trek is like ice cream; everyone's got their favorite taste.

Funny, with season one and two, there are certain things I like - The energy, the characters and writing, even the music were at times whimsical. It was very similar to the original trek in my opinion.

It also had a risky essence to it, with Tasha bedding Data and other men. That sort of stopped after season 3.

And if you look at Data, you'll notice him going from energetic and whimsical in season one, to lethargic and serious after season 3. All the characters did in a way..

What I didn't like much about the first season - How naive it was, the innoncence - you got the impression that a force like the Dominion would have mopped up the floor with The Next Generation Trek.

Of course the main thing, most fans will probably compare DS9 or Voyager with The Next Generation and find it less risky, safe, P.C and..lame..

Still, maybe if there were no T.N.G, we wouldn't have had a DS9, Voyager, and the others...

^ There's no "maybe" about it.

They established all the background for the other series to come, DS9, Voyager, even the Enterprise.

Without T.N.G, there's no Bajor, or Cardassia, or Worf, Or Gowron. No Borg, House of Duras, I'll give them that.
