It's a damn shame Issue #3 passed. As an Ohio citizen, I have to deal with that outcome, and it won't be pleasant. "Choices in Healthcare" my ass. As an uninsured diabetic, I can say goodbye to any help trying to stay alive and afford my medications. Really, though, aside from the detriment to myself, it's another way to fuck over a lot of poor families when they're trying to take care of their sick kids. Businesses and the GOP found a way to undercut a desperately needed program. But don't worry, as long as you're wealthy enough and have a high enough paying job, you can probably afford healthcare. That said, for the rest of us Ohioans, congratulations are most definitely not in order.

Given that Issue 3 likely isn't even constitutional, I wouldn't worry too much about it. State law cannot override federal law.

So let me get this straight...

You expect to get a job in a union shop without being a member of the union, you expect to get the same wages and benefits as those around you, you expect to be able to continue working when a collective bargaining contract is being negotiated if workers are forced to sit out and then you expect to get the fruit of the newly negotiated contract?

I've never been a part of a union, but my Dad was and what you want would surely get you ran out of the company pretty quickly.

* I believe that unions are still a necessary component to the management/labor dynamic even though some unions have made major mistakes along the way.

A person should not have to be part of a special group to get a job, nor should they be discriminated against. You can call that freeloading all you want.

And I get what you're saying. what you're saying is that workers have to be part of a union to be able to collectively bargain, and the only group they can form is a union. That's it with no other choices available, and anybody who doesn't follow suit is a free loader lazy bum.

I wasn't berating you, but I think your woefully misinformed about the impact that hiring non-union members in a union shop would have and about unions in general.

Hiring non-union employees: This would represent a back door to an employer being able to erode the union it's negotiating with. Companies that deal with unions would begin looking to hire the types of people they know would be opposed to union membership. I'm sure a good psychologist could give an employer two or three seemingly innocent questions that would gauge a person's interest in being a union member. Essentially giving the employer the power to bust the union at will.

Union Impact: When you have a union shop within an industry that doesn't have much in the way of union membership it usually ends up being good for everyone involved. One of our local groceries (Kroger Corporation) employees are represented by a union, as a side effect every time they negotiate a new deal, pretty much every grocery employee in the area (Super-Valu and others) experience a growth in wages and benefits.

You might want to do some balanced research on unions in general before issuing a blanket condemnation of them all.

You get shit because you explain yourself very poorly, constantly change the subject, and seem not to know much of the things you discuss. If one or two people were seeing it, sure, you could dismiss them as argumentative jerks. But when the consensus is that no one understands what you're talking about, or the things you say make no sense, the problem isn't everybody else--it's you.

What people that are against health care like that never tend to realize how it'll affect those that can't afford it themselves. They don't look at the little guy, do they?
