ohhhhh...SPOCK!

So I'm watching the OMEGA GLORY. And there is that seen where just by staring at some chic on the other side of the room, Spock can 'use his mind' to make her do something. Then it got me to thinking about the episode, By Any Other Name I think, when he is able to touch another dude's mind, even with a wall between them...

And yet both of these powers would have seem to be helpful in later episodes. Are there other abilities of Spock that were 'one time' plot devices? And if so, what do you think about his powers 'coming and going'. And if Spock, a half vulcan, could do such things then imagine a full blooded Vulcan with the ability to control other peoples minds by not even touching them...sounds creepy to me.

that's why they have mental shielding and rules and stuff. there was a TOS novel that talked about this. for the life of me, I can't think of the name now, but I'll search for it. a fascinating read, it was.

Spock has also said that Vulcans "do not lie". Yet we've seen him either exaggerate wildly or outright lie time and again to accomplish his mission. Spock is duty-bound. He will transcend his basic Vulcan training if it serves to accomplish the greater good. It is only logical.

And there is a difference between "do not" and "can not"...even those who cite that piece of Vulcan lore overlook that.

Actually, iirc, in By Any Other Name they cite to continuity, referencing the same hypno-hands trick Spock had performed on Eminiar in Taste of Armageddon.
