Oh for cryin' out loud! (Uncle SPOILERS)

The beauty of this forum is that we take a little kernel of nothing, whip it up into a frenzy, argue about it ad nauseum, and then I ultimately get to the point where I just don't care anymore (after I barely cared about it in the first place).

So thank you, everyone, for the therapy. I think.

Yeah, this place reminds me of marriage too.

Strange that I sometimes miss the former, but rarely the latter. ;)

Perhaps the fact that the former has on ON/OFF switch has something to do with it.

I don't know, sounds kind of lame. I suppose Kirk'll be resentful of Scotty and inspire the colony of Teetotal VIII to create synthehol.

Spin it however you want but I don't think anybody truly wanted to see this.
If the movie was made up only of stuff we wanted to see then it would be predictable. Drama comes from conflict and overcoming adversity, this would be included in the category of adversity. It's only a problem if it's poorly executed, and I don't think it will be.

I get drama but when I'm watching Star Trek I want to see Kirk defeat Klingons not acute pancreatic cancer. I thought Kirk's own father issues with his own son did work well and fit with the character but this just sounds off. Then again I've never been that interested in the origin of Captain Kirk so I'm probably biased.

Could it be?

Actually, I agree that ST Zero should not be another 'movie of the week' case history of child abuse, etc. It's so easy to blame someone else for what happens in our lives, rather than take responsibility for our actions. :vulcan:

From TFF it looks like Kirk may be the only one of the bunch to take responsibility. Whereas the others feel release in letting go of the past, Kirk embraced it.
