Oh boy! Is the May date changing again?

The article makes a good point about the uber-secrecy around Trek XI is starting to hurt it. Abrams and his cohorts need to realize that releasing info is not evil. But staying silent like they have could be damaging.

I mean, really, what do we know about the movie? There could be time travelling Romulans and a time travelling Nimoy-Spock. Kirk has an abusive drunk redneck uncle. The Romulans of the movie look stupid as fuck.

I agree with the secrecy. Its starting to wear thin.

By now i wouldve at least have expected to see more than publicity shots for a poster. Something like a short scene or some publicity material at least.

If it carries on like this, then no one will see it but us people in here because no fucker knows about it and are getting fed up of waiting around for months and months and god damned fucking months.

Oh well, never mind

We're the only people that care about it being delayed. Us whining is not going to matter, because we're going to see it anyway no matter when it comes out. The general movie going audience that TPTB are aiming for are not being affected by all of the secrecy or the delay. They don't even know when it's coming out.

Once the main trailer with an actual date hits the cinema's we'll be able to start gauging the general response to the new Star Trek movie. Until then all this hand wringing over the secrecy and the delay is over nothing.

Well, I've been saying that all along, or at least since Comic-Con when we learned that... We weren't going to learn anything.

I'm not saying we should have a media blitz right now, but shit, Paramount needs to release some publicity stills or shots from some of the sets.

Something.

This seems similar to what happened with Indiana Jones. They keep the movie under wraps for so long that even the fans start to get disgruntled. I think Paramount has a plan in place, though...probably around Thanksgiving we'll see a new teaser and some shots of the actors and sets. And then a full trailer for Christmas.

But still....if it weren't for this site, I'd forget about the damn thing entirely. I'm not excited at all, and it's not even on my radar. I hope something happens soon.

I'm not sure that we're going to get another teaser and a full trailer too. I think we'll get the trailer, probably at Christmas, and that's it.

If they were going to do a second teaser, they should've done that with IJ&TKotCS.

JJ Abrams does not have much power of how the movie will be promoted by Paramount, though. The secrecy has been refreshing!

Actually, I hadn't thought too much about the recent "Indiana Jones" sequel. It was right off my radar. I don't think I even remembered they were making a new one until I caught a trailer in the cinema, and then a few weeks before the film opened, I saw a foyer display with that familiar hat and whip poised as props over some posters. Even though I still read "Starlog", I missed that there was a new Indy being negotiated, written and filmed till I saw it. Almost everything in it was fresh and new. If I hadn't read the cast list on the poster, I wouldn't have known Karen Allen was returning!

That's the way to do it! "Temple of Doom" and "Last Crusade" had no surprises. The media hype had spoilerized every plot point and character.

In any case, the article says of ST XI, "The good news is that word from Paramount is that there is a plan to ‘massively promote’ the new Star Trek movie and deals are being cut now to start feeding things to the mainstream media and lift the cone of silence..."

True, but it seems that this massive push is still three months away. I'm not at all certain why Paramount feels it needs to wait until the film is nearly completed to release a few pictures. I can't help but wonder if they had kept to the original release date just when we would've gotten the trailer and seen a media push begin.

Because the Internet fans savagely trashed "Generations", "Insurrection" and "Nemesis" from the very first script leaks all the way to opening weekend and beyond? ;)

May 2009 is still a long way off, publicity budget speaking.

They should put 10-20 second soundbites on the air from Spock and Kirk, et al to make the general public at least go... WTF?

Too much too soon can be bad for it. Just look at how some of the bones we have been thrown has lead to some saying they won't see it based on those spoliers.

As much as I am starving for tidbits I am willing to wait. I think a last, or rather, close to last minute media blitz, as Therin described regarding Kingdom, would probably be best for the film. In the meanwhile I will just keep coming here for snacks as they become available.

I think people are too used to advanced spoilers these days. We got a teaser over a year before the film. Plenty of May blockbusters have done extremely well when they haven't even started majorly pitching the film until January. It'll be fine.

That said, we do need more. Not a great deal, but the sooner we get a trailer, another still or two, or even a short clip - the better.

I'm still worried that they made a big mistake in throwing it in the middle of what will be an extremely busy and competitive May. The trailer(s) better be damn good.

At the very least, there should be an official plot synopsis saying exactly what this movie is about. There's already one for the new Terminator, which is being released just a couple of weeks after Trek XI.

Of course, it doesn't help when local cinemas have trailers saying it's "coming December 2008", like the local Vue did...
