Official Avengers 4 Anticipation Thread

Or she never used the Time Stone in that way, choosing to use her own powers instead.
She says, “I've spent so many year peering through time, looking at this exact moment. But I can't see past it. I've prevented countless terrible futures and after each one there's always another, and they all lead here but never further.”

If I understand you correctly, you’re saying that “I can’t” here means “Of course I could if I wanted to, I’ve just never bothered.” I think that’s a real stretch.

But there's nothing in the Ancient One's statement there that says she was using the Time Stone to look into her own future. Perhaps using her own internal power, she couldn't see past her own death. If she had used the Time Stone, an external power, she could have seen further if she had chosen to.

OK, maybe she isn’t using the Time Stone, but she has it. She can use it if she wants. If the Time Stone grants the power to see the future past one’s death, then she can see past her death, she has just chosen not to use that ability. So your interpretation makes her statement literally false, not to mention raising the question of why she would make such a choice given how much depends on her preventing terrible futures.

Regardless of whether she used the time stone or not, I think we all know that Strange is not going to be dead in the future where the Avengers win--that does make one wonder though...if Strange can't see past his own death then how would he be able to determine that futures in which he is killed are not the futures that ultimately win the day? In the end, it was probably an oversight in the writing of the movies but our in universe explanation would be more likely that Strange's abilities have exceeded the Ancient One's at this point.

She never actually says she can't see past her own death. She just couldn't see past that moment. Strange adds the death interpretation - which she doesn't contradict, but when dealing with mysterious ancient mystics that really doesn't mean a thing.

In fact, depending on how one interprets her comments on Strange's future, she may have actually looked into his future past her own death, and it was only looking into her own future beyond that point that was impossible.

Also, she clearly frowned on Strange using the time stone so casually. It's entirely probable she understands that using the stone could lead men like Thanos right to it. So she obviously wouldn't use it just to check out what might happen.

Or that he is the one to sacrifice himself to stop Thanos over all the others, and him resigning himself to it being the only possibility is knowing he has to die to make it happen?

I don't normally go to movies on opening day to avoid the crowds but I might just have to do it for this one. I don't think I can hold out.

This is definitely the last best film to go in for an opening day screening. I can't imagine any big event films of this magnitude coming in the near future.. Unless they do Avengers VS X-Men someday.

Arguably the most anticipated film since The Phantom Menace.

I’m guessing the Russos will do a better job of living up to the hype than Lucas did.

Community alum Ken Jeong is set to have a cameo, continuing the Russo Bros. tradition of including nods to their roots.

More interestingly yet another character that we never expected to see again is rumored to appear...

Rene Russo's Frigga joins Crossbones and the Ancient One in rumored cameo appearances. Time-travel, flashback or B.A.R.F.?

(Michael Grillo who serves as a producer on the film is rumored to appear as Crossbones and also revealed that Tilda Swinton had flown in for a day of shooting)

Would certainly help explain the 60+ known characters in the film claim.

...but it probably still means no Agents of SHIELD or Netflix characters. :(
