offical german site reports: New series called Star Trek Prime

You know what would be very funny?

If we ARE actually beeing trolled by CBS to keep the buzz going, and this whole "yeah..its offical.." then an hour later "oh..no, its actually fake" by that CEO was actually marketing..and in a few months there is a much more professional version of that poster on startrek.com and CBS ;-)

But if you´re trolling the fans for buzz and stuff...wouldn´t you do it in the main market? Germany may be the biggest non-english speaking market (to my knowledge)..but its not THAT important.

I think you need to do a little more research. There is also a reason journalists look for 2 independent sources for confirmation. This picture was on reddit before it was even on that German site. It's now been a month and it hasn't appeared at StarTrek.com or CBS.com. Does that really pass the smell test to you? Would CBS give a German site a 1 month exclusive on news like that? Or is it more likely that the social media editor of a German site was fooled by a fanmade graphic? Remember Occam's razor.

Please consider that if you're getting your info from an official website for a specific franchise that there's no higher institution than that. Or would you also doubt the press release on the new series that startrek.com published? That'd be the same logic.

It's not uncommon that press material is being distributed WAY before its eventually being released. While it is true that it would be highly unlikely that a local office would get exclusive news like that I initially suspected a simple error in communications and the information was published way before it was supposed to be published.

That's why we've asked for a confirmation. Which we've got.

Not from a tiny social media editor btw but from the CEO that runs the company behind startrek.de.

The same guy that about an hour later wrote me "oh sorry, you're right, not official".

As an editor for a news magazine I cannot verify this kind of information with "two independant sources" because usually this information comes via press release or a posting (like this) on a official website. Simply arguing that this picture was online on forums and image boards does not say anthing as stuff gets leaked nowadays all the time.

This is why you wait for a posting on an official website to begin with.

Remember StarTrek.com/de sites are not official sites in the sense that they are run by the owner of the franchise. They are sites run by social media companies hired by CBS. And this was likely some associate staff person seeing the image and posting. The CEO should never have confirmed the story without first checking himself, but at the end of the day StarTrek.com and de are only slightly above fan sites in terms of reliability/officialness. Official announcements will come from CBS.com just like the original press release.

Fake as in "some fans made it up and no one at CBS ever said that it might be the title."
