OK, guys...your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to reach back into the history of whatever Trek species you choose, and show us that moment in their history when they first reached for the stars. You've got your choice of species, even universe...the only thing that is off the table is prime-universe humanity (i.e. us) at any point in the Trek timeline. This does not rule out humanity in another universe. All other species are up for grabs.
I'm looking for the "big" moments in their history: first extraplanetary landing, first warp flight, first contact with another species, for example. Who are these people and why did they do it, and when?
Due to the nature of this topic, I'm giving you a bit extra on the word count to play with. You'll have 6000 words to tell us your tale of a space "first" for your chosen species.
