Oblivion / Two Worlds / The Witcher

I was just wondering if anyone has ever played any of these three games, Oblivion / Two Worlds / The Witcher?

I love these types of games and would LOVE to see a Star Trek Game of this style, it would be great to have a game based entirely on a Sovereign Class Starship with every single room such as quarters and engineering etc completely available to explore and to be able to communicate and talk to every single member of the crew and to have little missions that you've got to complete.
There could be missions activated where the ship is invaded and you've got to thwart the invasion and smaller missions where you've got to fix the warp core and other missions where the ship stops off at a planet and you've got to beam down and collect some data on a local herb or something but you end up fighting local carnivorous animals or something, the game wouldnt be a complete shoot em up like we've had before although that would have a big part to play in certain missions but would be far more complex a game.

Would you like a game like this? its easily possible, if they can create detailed sophisticated games like Morrowind / Oblivion / Two Worlds / The Witcher / and the Grand Theft Auto series then i'm sure they can create a complex long lasting detailed Star Trek Game like this.

Well, a military command structure like Starfleet doesnt really lend itself to a sandbox type of game. The closest they have come to that type is in the shooter series Starfleet Elite Force 1 & 2. They recreated much of the interior of the ships and do allow some roaming between missions.

Personally, I think rather than realistic 3d they should make some more isometric overhead type games similar to Star Trek Away Team.

I think thats just not true at all, its quite easy to have an Oblivion type Star Trek game, the command structure of Starfleet has nothing at all to do with it, the player playing as a character such as an ensign could easily go about roaming the ship and talking to characters and being given things to do, other times could be the main plot missions which come direct from the captain and other senior staff ordering you to do things around the ship such as like ive said before fixing the warp core.
Character development could be achieved by 'rising through the ranks' and the player as they progress through the game can decide what career path to take, they can either become a command officer, an officer of the sciences or an engineering officer and the game changes to reflect these choices in career path.

When inbetween missions you could go to the mess hall and play 3 dimensional chess with other characters and place bets on winning, rather than betting money you could bet replicator rations which you can then go up to a replicator and use, to replicate anything you want from a list of objects such as flowers, which you can then use to give to one of the female officers in order to develop a relationship with them.

The possibilities in an Oblivion type Star Trek game is endless. Heck you could even be on the bridge when the ship is attacked and might get ordered to take control of the ship, so you click on the helm display and the game changes view to an external shot of the ship which you then have to pilot in order to win the battle OR you might get ordered to take control of tactical and have to aim weapons on the enemy ships in order to win the battle.

Another form the game could take is similar to GTA:San Andreas where you've got to eat and drink, in this ST game it could be made possible that if you dont eat, drink or sleep enough you can die. Weapon wise there could be weapons lockers all around the ship which you can access should the ship get invaded, it could be possible to get a weapon and kill another member of the crew but the alarms will sound and you get thrown in the brig and the game is over. ;)

If it was going to be realistic or at least consistent with the show then I still think a sandbox game wouldnt work well. In the other games you mentioned, you are your own boss and decide what to do and when to do it. Since Starfleet is a military organization with a strict chain of command and everyone has specific duties, it just seems that a freely roaming experience wouldnt capture the true feel. That is why I think mission oriented games where you work as an entire crew such as Star Trek 25th, Judgment Rights, Star Trek TNG Final Unity, Star Trek Away Team have been the best to capture the feel. Bridge Commander was alright as well though I would have preferred more variety in the missions.

It sounds like the Star Trek MMOG that was just canceled would have been the type of gaming experience you wanted. :(

I have played Oblivion, and agree this type of RPG could make a great Star Trek experience.
The one big departure, and I wonder how they were going to address it with STO, is that a Star Trek RPG wouldn't have as much first person 3d combat, especially on a ship.
On the ship the big daunting task would be hundreds and hundreds of characters' scripting. You would essentially have to script out most of a starship's crew, for months or years, and somehow have it both dynamic and consistent.
A lot of things in Oblivion happen on timelines so I disagree that it wouldn't work for being too free, just the opposite - you would have the option of messing up your career by not showing up in the right place at the right time. You could go postal and start phasering up the bridge. Or follow the missions and advance in rank.
I think there would be regular missions and duties, and then big shipwide events which you would be able to experience from whatever rank or post you happened to have. Playing through the game would allow you to start a new character at a higher rank, until you could eventually play it as Captain from the start.
Including Away Missions for those in the right track would be needed as well. General duties could possibly be made more interesting and fun by turning them into mini games. Security patrols would be easy, but other things like engineering or astrogation could have mini games. For instance keeping the warp field smooth by answering quick arithmetic questions.

I love the classic adventure game style too, though, and agree that 25th, Judgement Rites, Final Unity and also Hidden Evil really captures the feel of those shows. Keeping the voice acting, they could all use a major overhaul.

I played oblivion and it's a great game and Bethesda owns the rights to Star Trek but I doubt they would find it financially sound to invest 4-5 years to make a Star Trek game sadly.

They are currently making Fallout 3 so hopefully after that game is out...

Play Mass Effect. It's basically a Star Trek game without the Star Trek license. Captain of a ship travels across the galaxy and leads landing parties to explore various planets and ships... complete with Captain trying to save the universe from bad guys.

I think I would prefer an Icewind Dale type game, where you can take a series of characters with their own skill and inventory on missions. Away Team was a little like that, but the environments were very limited (and it won't run for me on XP).

That's a cool idea. So you could create an entire bridge crew. The gameplay itself would be similar to 25th Anniversary or Final Unity, only with a sweet isometric or 3d view, and the characters would level as you progressed.

I thought Mass Effect had a LOT more to do with Babylon 5

Maybe in some of the greater themes, but in its basic structure, it's about a Captain who has sex with a blue skinned alien while saving the galaxy and proving humanity's worth to the xenophobic aliens.
If anything, it's Enterprise.
