Oblique Enterprise Reference? (Spoilers?)

Especially when that non-popular spinoff show is the show that everybody says killed Trek.

Not even close to everybody is saying that. Anyone that is saying that seems to have missed a vital piece of information... Star Trek is clearly not dead.

You know damn good and well what I meant. Do you people jsut like to argue just for sake of aruging? Good lord.

I'm out of here, this place is ridiculous.

You're not sucking me into a canon debate. We all know things are going to be changing, and that's okay. You don't agree with me on the Enterprise reference. Fine. But don't sit there and try to tell me that they're honoring all the "off-screen" canon stuff with TOS because we all know they're not. C'mon now.

They're not "honoring all the 'off-screen' canon stuff" from "Enterprise," either. They've got one or two effing references in the movie. OTOH, they've got quite a bit of "off-screen" fanon/canon stuff from TOS - like the names of Kirk's parents, for starts. There's just no way that this works out to preferential treatment for "Enterprise."

What you're saying works out approximately to "unless they're going to hew to absolutely every detail of TOS as I understand it, they shouldn't reference continuity from the other Trek shows in any way." That doesn't make sense.

What "off-screen" canon stuff are they not honoring?

AFAIK, they are changing some of the look of things, but that is on screen.

Any other characters or histories changed? Maybe some timeline with Kirk, but that is still a maybe, it may be fixed in the end or it not be the problem we think it is.

I think references to other series are no problem as long as it isn't over done with Trip being Kirk's Uncle and Janeway's great great grandfather etc

I've read in interviews that Picard will be mentioned.

Old Spock to Young Kirk: "You remind me very much of another Starfleet officer, Jean-Luc Picard. He too, had a magnificient head of hair."

Funnnnnnny.

Pike to Spock: "Yes, Spock, I wasn't sure who I was once either. I was born Chretien Picard. Couldn't take the kidding I got growing up in Mojave, so when I went to Starfleet I changed it to Chris Pike."

So, if the Enterprise references aren't oblique, are they acute?

I'd just like to see Tiberius Chase referenced. Not.

When the movie was first announced, JJ said there'd be salutes in the script (and sets?) to all the other Star Trek series. There'll probably be clever references and in-jokes to TNG, DS9, VOY and ENT.

1. I didn't mention anything but Enterprise so I don't know what you're complaining about.

But now that you mention it...

2. There's no such thing as off-screen canon so it's impossible for them to honor it. So I guess I will continue to not sit here and try to tell you that they are.

Well, that was all thoroughly pointless. We now return you to your regularly scheduled speculation.

You know damn good and well what I meant.

No.. no I don't. I only know what you wrote. Perhaps in the future it would be good to write what you mean rather than writing something completely different. Then others will know damn good and well what you mean.
