News Obi-Wan Kenobi series premiering on May 27

I wonder if there was a specific reason they didn't give The Grand Inquisitor the elongated head that the animated version and all of the other Pau'ans we've seen have? We first saw them in Revenge of the Sith with those heads, so it's something that they can do in live action, and isn't a animation only thing.

Rupert Friend is a noted and successful actor. So they went with a known quantity instead of just a rando with a narrow head. But, yeah, it definitely looks weird!

Best guess is that the Inquisitors get too close to finding him of Tatooine (or finding Luke) and thus Obi-Wan heads offworld to draw them away while still looking like he's trying to lose them and hid. Bonus points if he can find a way to fake his death, or at least give an impression that he was killed. Therefore the majority of the Empire would not be looking for him anymore, with only Vader suspecting Kenobi to survive.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is one of the known survivors of Order 66. More or less what the Inquisitors were founded to hunt. Darth Vader's biggest prize, his former master (and friend). If they have a rematch, it is highly likely that Kenobi will win again, or manage to pull a fast one and escape. However, if his plan is to seem dead, he will need to come up with a way for the Empire to believe he died. But he can't afford to die to Darth Vader, and he still needs to secure the safety of Luke (and possibly Leia).from being discovered as Anakin Skywalker's offspring.

The only other possible reason for Obi-Wan to leave would be if Leia is imminent danger of being discovered as a Skywalker. Or just Force Sensitive and taken by the Inquisitors. But than the only way to hide that would be to track down any record of her midichlorians count and other such files and make sure they are erased and any involved killed.

Best guess is that...

So there are rumors. I'm going to spoiler code them in case nobody wants to read them. Could be nonsense, but makes a lot of sense, I think.

So the rumor is that the Inquisitors kidnap Leia. Not because of the Force, but because of Bail. They seem to sort of know he's in on, or at least sympathetic to, the Rebellion without being able to prove it. Or just that he was close with the Jedi before they fell. But either way they suspect that if they put his daughter in danger, he'll go all out in getting help and call in any Jedi he knows about.

But this being Leia, it's much, much bigger than the Inquisitors realize and brings Obi-wan out of hiding in order to rescue her. And once they realize they have Obi-wan Kenobi out in the open, it's all hands on deck to hunt down one of the most significant of all Jedi fugitives. Cue Obi-wan v Vader, Round 2. I'm going to guess that Obi-wan doesn't yet realize that Anakin survived Mustafar and figuring out who the dark warrior in the life-support suit is will be something of a blow.

With that music Maul is bound to show up. We finally get some sequel stuff after the Solo movie

Nothing is sacrosanct.
Of course some things are.

Except it doesn't contradict anything Star Wars did, both Revenge of the Sith and Obi-Wan Kenobi are doing an interpretation of what the lines in Star Wars meant, and this can even fix the minor contradiction of Vader not wanted to chop Obi-Wan the way he did him, in anger like his grandson.

As much as I love what Clone Wars and Rebels did with Maul and curious to see more of him after Solo, I don't think any appearance here would work. I love the simple eloquence of Maul's final meeting with Obi-Wan in Rebels and I think that moment works best if they haven't seen each other since the fall of the Republic.

For me, that list is extremely small when it comes to Star Wars, especially after the prequels.
It's a personal thing. I don't like messing the continuity up.

Except this one, of course, isn't, and Star Wars has been good at doing crazy retcons without damage.

From a certain point of view.

That's a pretty cool picture. Have we heard yet if James Earl Jones will be coming back to do his voice? I know it's a pretty safe assumption, but you never know.
I wish this was as a movie. Especially since they would release a blu ray for it.
I don't. I love that this is going to be a series, and it will give us a chance to really get a lot deeper into Obi-Wan's character at this point in his life.
If that’s the Grand Inquisitor shouldn’t Lorca be playing him?
You mean Jason Isaacs? Not necessarily, we've gotten a few animated characters who aren't played by the animation voice actor.

No, I think you misunderstood me. I don't have a problem with Friend's casting, I was just surprised they didn't have him in a prosthetic head that gave him the taller head that all of the Pau'ans we've seen before him have, and that the character had on Rebels. Bruce Spence has kind of a tall head, but even his wasn't as tall as his character Tion Medon's, so I'm pretty sure it was partially a prosthetic.

I noticed the Grand Inquistor's creases in his skin also don't look quite as deep as Medon's, but that's the kind of thing that could easily vary by individuals, or due to age or something like that.

Yeah this live-action depiction of the Grand Inquisitor doesn't even look like the same species. Besides the head shape, he has regular human eyes and human looking teeth. Even doing the eyes like the animated version with yellow irises on black eyeballs would have gone a long way in making him look more alien. There shouldn't be any whites on those eyes!

Maybe it's not the same dude?
