nutrition/training advice needed

Hi!

I'm getting married next year and I'm trying to get in shape for the big day. I've been hitting the gym for about four weeks now but I'm in a bit of a bind cos I'm about two stone (28 pounds) off the weight I want to be but I also would like to get stronger too.

My first question therefore is, is there a way to do both? I know that long term it is not possible to burn fat and build muscle but I have read that for the first few months of training it is.

Secondly what should I be eating? At the moment I'm eating:

7am two scrambled eggs plus museli and weetabix
10am an apple
1pm A chicken sub from subway and a pint of skimmed milk
5pm (pre workout) two slices of wholemeal bread and a 20g whey protein shake
post workout bottle of lucozade (sports drink like gatorade) and 40g whey protein
8pm can of tuna, half a cup of wholegrain rice and salad

I'm also not sure about what to eat before/after cardio and when to do it. At the moment I'm going to the gym four times a week to lift weights and interval running twice a week

I an 6'4'' and weigh 245lbs atm. I used to play basketball for my uni and lift weights regularly and I weighed about 215 lbs then which is what I'm aiming to get back to.

Any help you guys could give me would be greatly appreciated.

My thought is that if you are only trying to get in shape so you will look nice in pictures one day, rather than a lifestyle committment to eating healthier and exercising regularly, that you will end up gaining it back afterwards, or at least waffling up and down the scale.

I'm not a nutrition buff, but I try to eat 3 healthy meals a day. I would think if you drink a lot of water, cut out fried foods, sweets, desserts, etc., eat lots of fruits and veggies, and go easy on fatty red meats, it will be helpful.

Also, I find it easier to workout if I have a devoted time to do so each day. Right after work is set aside for that. It's either straight from work to the gym, or home to change my clothes and set right out on a jog. It becomes a habit, and you don't schedule anything else at that time.
