Yes, yes, self selecting polls are silly, etc.

However, I thought it might be interesting to discover - in the most unscientific way possible - what TV series was enjoyed by the majority of nuTrek fans.

You are welcome to explain why the particular TV series is your favorite, and how it compares to nuTrek.

TOS is my favourite and the new movies are the clearest expression of everything I love about TOS, more than any other iteration of Trek.

I grew up on TOS so that's still "STAR TREK" to me.

And one of the things I really like about the new movies is that they've brought back a certain pulpy, swashbuckling zest and excitement that, IMHO, the latter-day shows sometimes seemed to have lost--or maybe even shied away from. As one reviewer brilliantly put it, the reboot gave Star Trek a much-needed dose of Viagra!

There's no reason STAR TREK can't be high-minded and fun.

One thing I really appreciate in TOS moreso than in others is that our heroes seemed to have some sort of cool swagger; oftentimes, I felt the swagger was pretty clear in the way their images would be in a freezeframe during beaming.

Yes, future crews had confidence, a bit of joviality, and perhaps a stronger feel for the ensemble, but the TOS crew had a nice dose of 1960s cool bravado going for it, in line with other stylish adventure shows of the time like Mission: Impossible. These were heroes who faced unique, sometimes cosmic threats on a weekly basis -- they better strut their stuff!

But I get that sense as well from perhaps half the new cast, which is good for me. Pine, Quinto, Urban, Greenwood, and Cho specifically. I'm sure the rest can join the fray, but they just need to strike the right pose.

DS9 is my favorite of the Trek series. :). Lots of action and epic (if stock footaged) space battles. But I also liked their less action oriented eps like "Far Beyond the Stars", "Little Green Men", and "Badda Bing, Badda Bang".

So I guess in analogue, I like the action and humor often found in all of Star Trek, but it is exemplified in DS9 and the Abrams Star Trek movies.

"Viagra" is a double-edged compliment, it could also be an allusion to what the movie makers are doing to the viewers.

Getting them excited?

As long as it's just for a two hour movie, it's fine. It's only if it lasts more than four hours that you're supposed to contact a physician. So no double-features with ST09.

And my favorite show is DS9.

Okay, how about this: the reboot added a healthy dose of rock-and-roll to a franchise that was starting to feel a bit like chamber music . . . and got STAR TREK back in touch with its roots.

Funny though that "chamber music" is a euphemism for the noise people make while...

My favorite TV series?

Either Buffy or The West Wing.

Ohh.... That's not what you meant.

In that case, the one with "Star Trek" in the title.

I love TNG, but it's not my favorite series. Plus, in some ways, TNG hasn't aged well. I still love the show, and I love the characters, but I'm more likely to watch either TOS or DS9.

I cant believe TNG isn't on the board yet. OTOH, my two faves are racking up the votes.

It is interesting, but not surprising. I have seen consistent comments about how nuTrek is appealing because it moved away from the Berman-era/TNG style of Trek and went back to the more fun, loose, and entertaining style of Trek found in TOS.
