NSX-001 U.S.S. AKIRAPRISE

LtCarter

Lieutenant
Red Shirt
She was intended to be the first warp 5 ship. She was a prototype....she was beautiful.......and she went missing for over 200 years.

Merry Xmas and/or happy holidays.

It's actually a much better design than the official one, albeit still too Akira-like for my taste.

ShamelessMcBundy Thank you for the Quote. What about Festivus?
Gecko of Gorn :The saucer is very reminiscient to Ptrope's Endeavour.
::Did a search couldn't find the Endeavor.
Unwrapped :It's actually a much better design than the official one, albeit still too Akira-like for my taste.
:: Exactly: its an Akira from the enterprise era "Akiraprise". Only done to TOS standards.

That thread has long since been pruned, but here are some representative shots (not embedding the images because I don't want to hijack the thread ;)):

Front 3/4 high Top Rear 3/4 low (I started a complete revamp based upon the same architecture: Endeavour II)

I also noticed the similarity, but, hey, I like the idea of the intersecting shapes, and you've done a good job with it :bolian:.

I like both ships. I think that the Akiraprise looks more realistic than the Enterprise in Enterprise.

Looks great but it´s kinda sad that a fan-made concept looks more fitting than what the people who worked on Trek for years came up.

Thanks Ptrope the Endeavor is certainly interesting. Personally i see a few problems for my taste, but the updated#II is definitely nice modeling. lennier1 "sad" is an understatement, frankly school children could have done a better job. Theres another thread here that also has some nice NX-Enterprise replacements that would also be fitting.

Great design! My first instinct is to flip up the engines, but I kinda like the 'runner' idea.

:rommie:

My only complaint is it is a bit flat. Which limits the amount of cool angles you can shoot it from. Bringing the saucer back closer to the engines/pod and adding more height to the design over all would improve it drastically IMO.

: Yeah the original akira had them this way.

:Flat? its 9 decks high and i have a "bunch" of nice angles on my computer that are not posted. As for bringing back the saucer that was tried at the SCN and it gave the ship a really bad NX-ENT vibe. Another alteration was tried and the ship is a bit beefier, i will post those images when the final parts are built.
It's also interesting you don't like flat ships which seems contrary to modern TREK design.

I like Flat Ships :D

The Defiant and My Love Class (thanks again Lt. Carter)

are good exambles of Flat Ships :D

Thats just the tip of the iceberg nathan.
The Nova,Intrepid,Sovereign,Steamrunner,Centaur, not to mention 95% of the Trek ships being designed in the other various groups are all flat ships.I actually have a lot of images of fan designs that show this.

Most of the best ship designs IMO aren't flat, even if they have an overal low profile they still have a defined 'flow'. The Defiant is an exception but even it is more of an ovoid shape from the side. The majority of your ship when viewed from the side is 3 long narrow rectangles grouped together into a mostly rectangular overall form. Compare this to the original Enterprise, the refit, the Excelsior, the D, the E, Voy, etc. They have much more complex overall shapes even if the shapes they're made out of are often simple. I can't imagine how bringing in the saucer could make it more NXish, one of my complaints about the NX is how weak the back end appears compared to the bulky saucer. Bringing the saucer back(even to the extent of having the 'pod' overlapping the saucer) would almost certainly make the ship overall look much sturdier and may even help the side view look more dynamic since it won't be as long.

If you have any pictures of this earlier attempt at changing the placement of the saucer I would love to see them.

Overall I don't dislike your design, I just see where it could be better and I'd like to see it reach those heights.
