Jake Lloyd, who played Anakin in TPM, has been arrested for reckless driving.

Apparentally TPM kind of killed his career, although him being kind of a brat on the set of Madison (Which was shelved for a few years until rereleased in 2005 direct to video to capitalize on Jim Caziezel's Passion of the Christ movie) probably didn't help either. Plus being bullied because many thought he ruined Star Wars didn't help.
 
I feel so sorry for that guy. His life ruined because of insane fans who took their anger over a crappy movie out on a child.
 
It is a shame. Very glad that Wil Wheaton was able to dig his way out of the similar stigmatic black hole that was Wesley Crusher before it consumed him like so many other child actors in similar situations.

Didn't Alec Guiness also resent Star Wars for setting his career into a tailspin? Seems to happen at all ages and under a variety of circumstances.
 
I have nothing but sympathy for Jake Lloyd, as a child you simply cannot foresee what your career choices may amount to, heck, you shouldn't have career choices at that age. I wish him all the best.

He did, though he was fortunate enough to have had a good career before he did Star Wars and so I think was able to avoid the stigma and despite what he thought about SW, I think everyone appreciated him, whereas with Jake Lloyd, the poor kid was just starting out and the experience likely soured him from pursuing acting any further.
 
Although his actions are to be condemned, and he should be punished, I feel sorry for everything Jake must have gone through as a kid. Fans can be assholes, there's no way around it. Treating a kid like they did, that leaves scars.
 
I don't tink TMP killed is career, he never really seemed to be a part of the Hollywood set. Whether or not had any real career plans as an actor it's still rather unknown. Still getting into alittle at his age isn't unknown, Shia LaBouf is a great example of that.
 
And his pickup line "Are you an Angel?" hasn't worked for years...

I shouldn't be flip as it seems the experience of making the movie really affected him harder than one'd think. He seems to have carried a major chip on his shoulder through the years.

I didn't think of that as a pickup line. I thought it was just a little kid saying, "You're pretty."
 
It certainly was not Jake Lloyd who ruined Star Wars. It was the crap that George Lucas instructed him to say. ;)

Being cute as a kid doesn't mean you won't be an ugly adult. You know the kid who played DJ on Roseanne? I saw him in some of the DVD commentary, same effect.
 
It's kind of a shame that he wound up with Jingle All the Way and TPM as his high profile films, reportedly he showed some promise in Unhook the Stars and ER. Reportedly some of the fame went to his head and hence the Madison problems and quitting from acting.

I've heard similar things about Hayden, apart from Star Wars, Jumper and that Nicholas Cage movie he was in etc. he's been OK in some stuff.

Can we just blame George for all that? :lol:

I mean Jake really was bad as a child actor but then again this is more of a failure of the casting team. It may not be easy to find the next Haley Joel Osment but they should have recognized that Jake simply didn't cut it.

However i feel sorry for him because i saw an interview with him where he talked about the issue and how he was bullied as a kid for playing the role and all the hatred online against him. That must be very hard to shake off for a kid/teenager.

People don't care what they write about others online because of the anonymity but the people they talk about can also use the internet and see how their performance is rated and i can only imagine that youÄd have to have a really good ego and distance not to let such comments get to you.. something i consider impossible for a kid or teenager.
 
I always found it odd that people complained so much about Jake Lloyd when Jar Jar Binks was vastly more annoying.

Count me as another guy who feels sorry for Mr Lloyd. I recall reading that he cheered when he learned he was going to be in a Star Wars movie. Little did he know...

To be honest, watching videos like this I can understand why people may not like the guy. He was just being needlessly rude here:
