Spoilers Now that we've gotten Batman v Superman, what are your thoughts on the DCEU?

Since we've now gotten the big set up for DC's movie universe, or the DC Extended Universe (DCEU), in BvS, I was just curious to see where people stand on it.
I enjoyed BvS, and the set ups for future movies were some of my favorite parts, so that has me pretty optimistic. I also love what I've seen in the Suicide Squad trailers, and the teaser for Wonder Woman in the CW special. I don't think they got off to quite as good of a start as the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but I'm still really looking forward to continuing to explore this universe future movies.

I want to call it the DC Film Universe (with intentional abbreviation). Batman was OK, but Superman (and especially his mom) seemed so depressing.

I know this was a superhero movie...but the creation of Doomsday seemed so... simple. If future stories are like this...not sure if people will be drawn in.

Also, lack of humor -- they need some level of that, and I am guessing the Flash will have it.

Then it's a good sign that the reaction to Wonder Woman in BvS has been so overwhelmingly positive. Even people who loathed the film overall usually praised Gal Gadot. So I think they've been successful in whetting audience interest for the WW solo film, and that may guarantee a strong opening weekend. At least that's one thing BvS managed to do right.

In fact, given how poorly Snyder has reportedly handled female characters otherwise in this film and elsewhere, I wonder if maybe other hands intervened (Patty Jenkins? Geoff Johns?) to oversee how Diana/WW was treated in BvS, and to protect the character with an eye toward her cinematic future.

I also think it's a good sign that Suicide Squad seems to be playing up Harley Quinn as its lead character, even though Will Smith is in the film (and it's unclear yet what the actual credit order will be, apparently -- IMDb puts Margot Robbie first, but Wikipedia puts Smith and Jared Leto above her). Plus SS is that rare entity in Hollywood -- a team action film that has multiple women on the team. If SS and WW both do well, it could help the cause of female-led comic-book movies.

Wonder Woman I am excited about, and B v S did it for me... with a WW with an accent and an origin taking place in WWI (rather than WW2), with an American Indian among the crew, I am VERY intrigued.

Suicide Squad may come off as Deadpool ripoff to people (a team of Deadpools!), and we don't have the creative advertising yet, other than scenes of Harley Quinn (which are still not 4th wall type of things), so we'll see.

Honestly, I'm not really all that jazzed for the DCEU now. I might still check out WW and SS depending on how they look as they get closer, but there's almost zero chance I'll bother with Aquaman, Cyborg, or The Flash. And for Snyder's next one, Justice League, I'd need to hear some pretty damn good word of mouth first.

...to be fair, I was very unlikely to bother with Aquaman or Cyborg even before BvS underwhelmed me,

Flash -- in the quick "flash" of a scene, he seems too much like a hipster, and with a really good Flash on DC TV, I will probably pass.

Aquaman -- hard to tell yet. I wrote off Thor, and later found myself pleasantly surprised, and eagerly awaited (and enjoyed) the sequel.

Cyborg - I am now excited! With Joe Morton as Silas Stone, I will be interested in seeing he & Vic's relationship. Also, I want to support a black/non-white superhero. I have heard all the whining about race changing of characters and that "just create your own superhero" "solution" -- well, here we are. For "undebateable" diversity, I hope this succeeds.

I am also hoping for Shazam to be the Superman movie we've been missing for a while.

So my summation is I am not as excited about the DC movies as I am with Marvel (and I grew up loving DC comics)

Considering he seems to have just implied DCEU Superman isn't shown as heroic I'm, no he hasn't.

Indeed, because what he did was pretty damn heroic at the end as to be honest, there's nothing heroic about going into a situation where you know you'll be fine at the end of it.

I don't think the films have built Superman as "heroic" as Captain America - both have been "goody two shoes", but Captain America has been able to sell hat as a major movie character. DC/Snyder has avoided it.

Yes, sacrificing yourself is heroic. But if Clark is as depressed as his mom & dad seem to have been... one might think it was a welcome suicide opportunity.

I mean, the Capitol building blew up... and Superman seems unfazed by that. I did no feel the grief or the feeling of powerlessness that would have made for some good drama. And inspiration for "heroism"

Right. Chris Evans's Captain America is a great template for how to do Superman.

I, for one, am very excited about the DCEU. Maybe it's because I'm just more of a DC fan but I'm ready to see the most iconic superheroes get their own movies.

Another thought I had while catching up on Daredevil last night: Nightwing would make a great Hulu or HBO show. It would eb even better if it was in the context of the DCEU and not in the Arrowverse.

It's still early and I'm curious despite that both MoS and BvS left some things on the table or omitted them altogether. I'm essentially excited most about the Wonder Woman and Aquaman solo films. My excitement for a Flash film would be higher but I'm getting an extremely satisfying weekly fix of Flash currently and will until the Ezra Miller version debuts. Cyborg has never interested me as a solo character.
My interest in Green Lantern is for having John Stewart be the lead.

It'll all shake out, hopefully for the best but Marvel is leaps and bounds above them even from this same point.

One of the main reasons I'm curious about Aquaman is I really can't think of big movie like that that's focused on an underwater location like Atlantis. I'm very curious to see what Atlantis is going to be like. Is all of the society inspired by Pacific Islander culture like Aquaman appears to be, or is it just his thing? The fact that they cast a white, blond actress as Mera does seem to indicate that not all Atlaneans are the same race as Aquaman. I think I read that the comic version is from somewhere other than Atlantis, so I guess they could go that route as an explanation for why she isn't the race as the Atlanteans.

This brings up something I've been wondering about. Has Batman had more than one Robin in the DCEU? The only adaptation that I know of where there was more than one Robin was the DCAU.

We don't know if the Robin suit in BvS was Dick's, Jason's, Tim's, or Kerry Kelly's. I'm hoping we see the rumored appearance of Dick Grayson in Suicide Squad and that the Joker killed Jason Todd so the Batfleck solo movie can focus on the Red Hood.

That would be pretty cool. I know a while back there was a rumor that Joker was the Robin the suit belonged to, but I don't know if DC would actually go that far.

Yeah. You can see the "R"

You can see the R, but you can hardly see the red and green. More like brown and gray. Why do movies desaturate the colors so much these days?

I don't know if we'd actually get that story though--it comes across to me as being to similar to The Winter Soldier story.

I think "Under the Hood" would be a great way to go for Batfleck's first solo outing, assuming he's come back from the edge he was standing on in BvS and has gone back to his no-killing ways. It'd be a great way to introduce Dick Grayson as Nightwing and examine the Batman/Robin dynamic. Then the next movie (assuming there is one) could introduce Damian Wayne as the new Robin, and maybe mix in the Court of Owls (one of the better recent additions to Batman's rogues gallery) as the villains.

Unfortunately in this scenario Tim Drake would pretty much have to be skipped over. Which is a shame, because I like Tim. But Damian is the Robin of today's DC, and Tim is kind of out of place with Dick Grayson and Jason Todd also serving as past Robins.

What am I actually looking forward to from the DCU, i.e. what would I consider seeing at the cinema?

Suicide Squad.
Possibly Cyborg, if it looks good - it has potential to be a great, gritty sci-fi action movie.
Maybe Battfleck? I don't know if he could match Snyder in terms of mood and action.
