This particular production was originally written, filmed and directed by Dylon Kiker as part of Potemkin Pictures. Unfortunately, for reasons which he didn't explain, after filming, he withdrew from our creative teams, and announced he would produce it himself. Then, several weeks later, he mailed me a jumpdrive with all the footage, and abandoned the project altogether.

I was kinda dumbfounded and totally blindsided by all of this.

Out of respect for the five cast members involved who had agreed to be in the production when it was part of the Potemkin Pictures' family, I sought out lead actress Scarlet Huo to give me guidance on the project. I had an outdated copy of the script, footage unclassified or marked, and frankly little or no clue as to how to procede. Scarlet was there to help guide me through the director's intent, and we struggled through unbelievable issues with unusable and missing footage, audio filled with traffic noise, and far more footage of my basement than I felt comfortable with. Scarlet helped with input in all phases of post-production, and for that I am deeply grateful.

What we ended up with was a scrappy little fan film, not one of our best, but one filled with heart and soul. It's certainly not our usual fare, but there's nothing wrong with that. I hope you all enjoy it.

Overall I liked it. My nitpicks:

- For not beaming down/exploring near any of the settlements, that sure was a well built and graffiti ridden bridge they beamed under. Interesting the indigenous lifeforms would abandon/not have a settlement near it.

- Interesting you had some nice foley sound effects for the hand to hand combat sequences, but didn't have a sound effect for the Sci. officer scanning with her Tricorder at the start of the live action portion.

- Again, realize it wasn't your script, but the cadet seemed to realize communications were jammed without really checking his communicator or at least attempting to call the ship (Hey, they try a call all the time on the various shows before stating communications are jammed. ;))

As I said, I liked it - and these are really minor mitpicks, but as someone who's done sound effect creation and editing - the lack of them in certain sequences where they wouldn't be missing in a licensed Star Trek production really sticks out to me. :)

Yeah, I have no idea why Dylon chose to film under the bridge. None at all. The original log entry said there was "No life detected on the planet." And yet he filmed it under a bridge. Then rather than film by the tree at the bridge, he moved to a field with a similar tree but no bridge in the background. Instead, there's a nicely paved road that had cars on it. Lots of cars. Lots and lots of cars.

No excuse for the tricorder. I heard it in the original footage. The prop makes the exact same sound. The sound engineer may have thought it was noise and removed it. Oddly, none of the five producers who vetted this one caught it.

That communicator caused a real crisis with the editing. The director apparently thought he'd come back later for a pickup shot or something, but he skipped three lines of dialogue discussing that they can't raise the ship, including the "Mason to Tristan" and no answer bit. Because I didn't want to lose the shot of Scarlet picking it up, I kept it in there that he dropped it.

Like I said upthread, this one was more of a rescued project for our cast members who joined this shoot thinking it would be one of our productions only to find that the writer/director had abandoned it on my doorstep, almost literally.

But I do appreciate the feedback. It was a cute story, sorta fun, sorta silly. And I'm glad it turned out as well as it did. I do wish we'd caught that tricorder sound though. :)

I like this fanfilm you certainly got a good story out of it with Scarlet's help. She is a spunky character in the film .I really like her character alot.

Scarlet is as "spunky" in real life. Not bad for a third year med student! She's also in our short film, "A Gathering Storm," as Xera, an Alcarinquan warrior.
