Now I know why people associate spicy foods with heartburn...

I keep a couple of bottles of Coke in the house for heartburn from the occasional meal reaction.

The gas and bubbles in the soda break up the gas in my stomach and make me burp. I guess, works for me though.

You have no heat tolerance. I just managed to assume that you are white.

Hey now. Some of us white people rather enjoy spicey food. :p

My roommates and I are all white and we have like seven different kinds of hot sauce in the fridge...and go through a ridiculous amount of jalapenos. We finally wised up and bought one of those giant economy jars. Also wasapeas are fabulous.

But I have within the past couple years started getting heartburn. :(

I must admit that I don't really like spicey food. Initially it was because it gave me heartburn, but since then - even with rennies - I don't like spicey food. :(

Yep, and until I had to give it up before it ate a hole in my gut, I used to be one of them.

I envy my friends who can still eat pizza. They're all sitting there sharing a pie, and I'm sitting there chewing on my plain ham and cheese sandwich from Subway.

Well, the thing that bothered me about it was I handled the spiciness of the buffalo wings just fine (in fact I've increased my spicy tolerance level because of how often I eat this food. In some restaurants, mild is too mild for me!) What hurt like hell was the acid churning up and hitting my throat a few hours later. It's like the acid absorbed the spiciness!

Needless to say, unless this becomes chronic for me, I ain't giving up my favorite food! ;)

(Also, the Gaviscon really helped!)

Man, I love spicy food. I go out every Wednesday for hot wings. The hotter, the better.

The point of spicy food isn't really the taste. There's the experience that goes with it--the sensation that is separate from the taste. Spicy foods release endorphins. They make you feel good. This does not apply to everyone but it does apply to people who enjoy spicy food.

I think I may have found a spicy food that I can get into. I bought some trail mix at Trader Joe's that has dried wasabi peas in them. Now I find myself rummaging through the bag looking for the last of the peas. Wasabi I actually like. The burning doesn't last too long on the tounge and if it is really hot it bypasses the tounge completely and goes for the sinuses. Now that's a sensation!:klingon:

Thai cuisine is pretty spicy, as are a number of Indian dishes (my buddy got me into the latter several months ago). Quite a few Filipino recipes can be rather spicy as well, depending on what region one visits.

I sympathise K-Star, I had the most wicked heartburn last night after really garlicky bolognese. Forgot how darn painful it is :( I try to fight it with beer ~ I lost!
