November Challenge--VOTE!

Not too many people were inspired by this month's dark and emo challenge, it seems. Perhaps I should have challenged some nuBSG fanfic writers instead. ;)

Nonetheless, we do have four entries to choose from:

Sniper: The Negotiator by captcalhoun;

The Captain Kirks by TimmyWl;

On the side of the angels by trampledamage;

and Star Trek Exeter: The Children of Heaven by hellsgate.

Since there are only the four entrants, we will each have just ONE vote.

Voting will open at once, and will close on 1 December 2007 at 1200 EST, as planned. My apologies once again for the delay.

Good luck to all the entrants!

My vote went to The Captain Kirks. It was a close decision because I did enjoy captcalhoun's story as well.

Good luck to everyone!

I wound up too busy to write anything. I kicked about a few ideas, but in the end all I had was a really, really neat title - "The Klingon Kagemusha Kibosh" - but a rather dull, overcomplicated story to go with it. I finally got a great idea for a story... this morning. Darn. But the concept is broad enough to be reworked into next month's challenge, so it will be - unless that challenge is about Fluffy Pink Elephants or something.

So why did I vote for trampledamage, if it is elephants I fear? Uh... I thought, while "On the side of angels" could have stood another copyedit or two, it was a very nice O'Brien/Bashir tale.

I'm hoping that I won't encounter too much hostility from the "Let Kirk Stay Dead" section of fic readers.

I expect you're right about the copy-editing - I found myself running out of time, and opted for posting it as is rather than risking missing the deadline.

Thanks for the vote! We elephants like people who vote for us :p

The Captain Kirks by TimmyWl really impressed me this month. It got my vote.

captcalhoun's in the lead. Shame, really, I was looking forward to finding out what we'd do in the event of a three way tie!

Well, obviously, it's good for him! Not so good for me... :p

Since hellsgate's story doesn't have its own thread, I guess, I'll have to comment on it here.

hellsgate, I'm afraid I didn't enjoy this one as much as the other three. Your story seemed to consist mostly of backfill--like you spent the whole story preparing to tell your story. Also, there was far too much 'tell' and not enough 'show'. Finally, I didn't see the element of bad faith and betrayal for which the challenge called.

These seem like interesting characters for a fanfic series, but so far, as far as I could see, that's all they are.

I voted for "On the side of the angels," because, as I wrote in my response, it seemed to tackle the more challenging, character-driven possibilities of the challenge.

"Sniper: The Negotiator" was a close second.

No such luck, I'm afraid. ;)

I hereby declare TimmyWl's story "The Captain Kirks" the winner of the November 2007 challenge. Good work Tim!

You now have two tasks to perform:

First, add your story to the thread of challenge winners, taking care to note the conditions of the challenge;

and Second, post a thread with a new challenge for December, along with a length limit, a closing date, and a polling period at the end of the month.

(Passes crown to the new winner)
