November Challenge - Ptrope

Ptrope

Agitator
Admiral
Something of a rarity for me - an early start on a challenge idea! Well, that's what happens when I have to model it ;).

Hadn't read the latest posts in the main challenge thread, but I'm hoping I'm on the right track:

I'm planning to approximate the silhouette, but not necessarily the plan view of the Connie, presuming like so many of Roddenberry-influenced encounters that the Federation still hasn't heard of the Z-plane and so approaches directly from the side ... and with enough distance that a basic assessment will say, "Hey, that's familiar ... " :D

A little more modeling - and I'm calling it quits for the night. At this point, it's really about spending the next couple weeks creating details.

Basic notes about the ship: I'm thinking about making its orientation the reverse of what it looks like. The saucer may, in fact, be a massive powerplant, feeding energy into the lower hull, which may be the primary thrust hull. The cylinder up top may be the main hull of the ship, and I've already cut a hangar deck into it, at what we might mistakenly call the 'front'; that scoop on the top is actually the top of the hangar. As you can see from the 3-views, it doesn't look much like a Federation ship - except from the side. ;)

All I can say is, at this moment, it ain't pretty ... ;)

That's a darn creative approach! I can't wait to see more, especially more angles.

The profile definitely denotes a "Constitution" look. I'd say you are on the correct path. :-) Looking cool.
