Novels Related to New Trek Movie

I recently read where the writers of the screenplay for the new Trek movie said they read and got some story ideas from novels such as Best Destiny and Prime Directive. Does anyone know if they have mentioned any others? Does the giant novel called Enerprise: The First Adventure factor into this as well? I would like to go back and reread these over the holidays and I also had a friend ask if he could borrow those to read for the first time. I was trying to put together only the ones that would be relevant to the new film.

That comes from the Entertainment Weekly article. I believe those were the only two novels mentioned. They also mentioned as inspiration some TV episodes (TOS: Balance of Terror, TNG: Unification, TNG: Yesterday's Enterprise) and The Wrath of Kahn.

I can't imagine that any of these would be actually connected to the movie. They probably provided thematic inspiration, but they certainly couldn't be considered to be in the same continuity as the new film.

I would think that they're referring to how they borrowed some backstory ideas from them - Best Destiny is big on Kirk's teen years, and I seem to recall hearing Final Frontier nabbing a mention or two, which focuses heavily on Kirk's father.

What they mentioned as their favorite books were "Prime Directive" and "Spocks World".

As for episodes they mentioned "Balance of Terror", "Yesterdays Enterprise" and "The Best of Both Worlds". For Movies they said "Wrath of Khan".

And their favorite series was "The Next Generation".

When I spoke with them, the novels mentioned were Best Destiny, Prime Directive and Spock's World - but these were ones that they passed between them as teenagers rather than stories that they were consciously emulating or sourcing from in the screenplay.
