Not Supporting the New Movie.

For those of you who don't like the new movie. What are some ways you are not supporting it?

How can you not like the movie if you have not seen it, and if you have seen it then you have already supported it......??

I think i know whats happened here...

Here's your present opinion , and here is your past opinion. Prior to this post....Now somewhere in the past, the timeline skewed into this tangent, creating an paradox of opinions...... In which new trek is greart, and powerful, is married to your mother' and in which i'm a sane productive member of the human race..;)

I also submit the following: the OP addresses those "who don't like the new movie", then asks what ways those folks will not support the new movie.

Now, to have an informed opinion on liking or not liking the movie, one must have seen the movie to make that opinion a definite, correct?

Therefore, if you have seen the movie, chances are you would have paid admission (or even seeing a free screening, money had to be paid by someone to show it at some level).

Ergo, even if you did not like the movie, you have supported it.

I don't give credibility to people turning up their noses at this movie before they have seen it.

I'm making a judgement based on the information I have available. Like I said if it turns out they undo what they've done in the same movie then I'll give them my money and go watch it.

Look, I'm sorry, but if you're indeed serious, there is simply no justification whatsoever for condemning a movie you haven't seen---period. It's that simple, no argument. It reminds me of the people boycotting the Last Temptation of Christ in the late 80s without ever having seen it. Or gay activists demonstrating against Basic Instinct, I guess because it supposedly stereotyped hot lesbians as icepick murders? But I digress.

Suit yourself. I can't wait.

Still, I don't understand the notion of "Boycotting" or "not supporting" this movie. Unless you really feel that this movie is going to rape your childhood or something, it's just a movie, and a Summer Movie at that. While I wish the Franchise would have moved forward, instead of made a new Kirk, it sounds like this is a great movie and it's new Trek. It's been years since we've had anything new, or at least it feels that way.

I was 100% behind this movie until the NuTrek Gestapo kicked my door down, produced a court order which declared my TOS DVDs contraband and made me watch as they smashed them one by one over a bust of Quinto as Spock.

Kinda soured me on the whole thing.

Indeed.

It's the obsessive nuTrek fanatics(almost worshippers)who almost ruined this for me. It's actually a similar situation to nuBSG where, if you DARE say ONE BAD THING about the new(nu)product they will vilify you openly here. It's disgusting in itself. Everybody has the right to his/her opnion and just because somebody expresses that they are not openly supporting the new film, does not give people here the right to name call and treat him like he has the Black Plague.

Personally, reading the OP, I had respect for the man because at least he is putting his money where his mouth is.

Yes I've noticed this too...it's rabid devotion -- can you imagine having rabid devotion to a tv series or a movie...I mean LOL LOL...:shifty: I'm glad I'm not like that! :guffaw:But seriously...how can you be devoted to something you haven't even seen yet? I suppose on the flip side how can you hate something you haven't even seen yet? Damn this board is going to be -a- hoppin this weekend !

But anyhoo, these devotees don't scare me...if I disagree I'll say it and take em' all on...I'm not easy to please as far as movies go...so I shall be critical but I'll also give praise where praise is due. I will say I've appreciate the discussion on the board and exchange of ideas...by doing this it has allowed me to accept the idea of this movie over time and now after talking about it to death for over a month I'm ready and actually excited for the movie...when I first joined this board..believe me my attitude was nothing of the sort.

I've had a lot of mixed feelings about this film, but ultimately I think it's important that we support the franchise...this is OUR franchise dammit...plus Paramount really needs the money...LOL

I'll still go see it eventually. Just not in the first week where Box Office makes its greatest impact.

I hated the idea behind Nemesis, Generations, & Insurrection but I went to see them anyway.

I have a friend that even refuses to watch this new movie. She was a die hard Enterprise fan (I know I know), and was incredibly saddened and outraged when the show was over, since it was her favorite. Right now, she's gone away from space-based entertainment, focusing square on fantasy. That, and she told me that to her, Star Trek in general is dead.

As for me, I respect her opinion, but I welcome new voices to tell these adventures. In a world that is cynical, racist, dour, bleak, mean, spiteful, and everything else - sometimes by design, the world needs these stories to tell, if only to give a positive perspective and have something good to share with people. It might be a pie in the sky attitute at times, but I'd rather have a fiction that promotes hope and the best parts of ourselves rather than something that, in certain cases, feels like we're eulogizing the good that people can do.

I enjoyed Abrams directing in MI3, and have heard nothing else but good things from his television work. I welcome new blood into this franchise from Orci and Kurtzman. Yes, I would prefer a story moving forward from the TNG era, but this take from the beginning also intrigues me, and I can't wait to see it. Just as long as the ideals Mr. Roddenberry put forth survive in some way, even if it is an altered timeline, it's a welcome addition for me.

As for my friend, I respect her wishes. Enterprise had hit its stride in its last season, but it was too little too late. It's a shame she refuses to follow after that.

Good for you! Instead of an opening weekend of $110,500,010, Paramount will go spiraling down the drain with a mere $110,500,000!!!!

But there was some pretty cools stuff too. Bridge getting blown open and a guy getting sucked out into space.
Then you should definitely see the new movie, because
there is a rather cool bit where a hole gets blowed in the side of the ship and a crewmember is flung out into space. The camera follows her, and as soon as it exits the ship... there is silence. It's pretty eerie, and cool.

One of the best, most effective scenes in the film.

Just got back from watching the movie...

I'm afraid to even write my thoughts, as I'd probably get banned for posting so many expletives in a single message.

*goes to rock slowly back in forth in corner while crying*

OP has to be a joke right? This was better than than anything that POS Voyager showed.

That's funny. I just found out that I won't be able to use the non-refundable tickets I bought for tomorrow morning (my daughter is sick)... so, I'm going to have to buy tickets again for a later time or a different day.

Basically, I'll be canceling out your boycott. Sorry.

Try and sell them for cheap craigslist. You might be able to get 1/2 of the cost back. Best of health to your daughter.
